Jonathan Maberry was born on May 18, 1958. His early books dealt mainly with martial arts and self defense. He then wrote a number of books on the folklore and beliefs of the occult and paranormal including Vampire Universe: The Dark World of Supernatural Beings That Haunt Us, Hunt Us and Hunger mostra altro for Us, Zombie CSU, and They Bite. His first novel, Ghost Road Blues, won the 2007 Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. His other works include The Pine Deep Trilogy, the Joe Ledger series, and the Rot and Ruin series. Mi sono avvicinata a questo libro grazie alla sua splendida copertina, quell'occhio non faceva altro che dirmi: "LEGGIMI, LEGGIMI ALTRIMENTI VERRAI MANGIATA VIVA!" quindi quando The Book Depository mi ha inviato uno sconto del 10% non ho avuto dubbi e l'ho acquistato subito!
Mai un buono sconto fu utilizzato meglio!

In Rot & Ruin il protagonista è un ragazzino di 15 anni, troppo piccolo per sapere come era il mondo senza zombie, prima della First Night. Per Benny Imura la normalità è vivere rinchiuso in una piccola città completamente recintata, venerare i cacciatori di zombie e collezionare le Zombie Card insieme ai suoi amici. Anche suo fratello Tom è un cacciatore, ma per Benny in realtà è solo un codardo, responsabile della morte di sua madre.

Nella prima parte del romanzo Benny è come tutti i quindicenni: irritante, immaturo ed egoista. Lo avrei preso a sberle ogni due pagine. Quando però si trova costretto a lavorare insieme al fratello Tom tutto cambia per lui e le sue convinzioni crollano velocemente una dopo l'altra.
Benny fuori dagli alti recinti della città scoprirà che il mondo è diverso da quello descritto nelle card sugli zombie. Conoscerà veramente chi è il fratello e forse chissà incontrerà anche la famosa Lost Girl...

Per chiunque ami i romanzi post-apocalittici Rot & Ruin è una lettura obbligatoria, anche per i lettori meno young. Jonathan Maberry, infatti, prima di cominciare questa saga ha scritto diversi romanzi horror e senza dubbio sa come fare il proprio mestiere.
R&R è il libro perfetto anche per chi non è avvezzo ai libri sugli zombie. L'autore ci presenta questi mostri in un ottica diversa e ci fa capire che i veri cattivi in realtà sono quelli ancora vivi e vegeti.… (altro)
