What books do you recommend?

I mostly enjoy fantasy, with an edge of real life. Nothing too common or predictable, and honestly, my preferences range from the classics like Peter Pan to the futuristic times of The Host and The Hunger Games. ( I've also fallen in love with World War Z and Warm Bodies, both of which have been created into theatrical movies due to the uprising apocalyptic fiction fad, which I'm okay with.. But not a complete obsession-beholder of it )
I absolutely love remakes of old legends and fairy tales, and I've recently read ( and enjoyed ) Between the Lines, Tigerlikly, and this book about Mermaids, with not such of an "Ariel" approach.
I've also read some Sarah Dessen books. While I didn't quite enjoy the simplicity of it ( you know, it's real life! cx ) I did really really like the unpredictableness of it. The endings were great.
The last two books I've read areThe Prince of Mist ( which I absolutely love!!! ) and Chime.
I also like the series, such as Mortal Instruments, and of course the classic Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.
I also like the J.R.R Tolkien way of writing. His depiction of Middle Earth makes me a big fan ( I like "other world" books as well, like Narnia or the Spiderwick Chronicals. )
My favorite fairy tales are Peter Pan, then Fox and the Hound and Bambi, and below that are Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid. I also love Balto.
I watch a few tv shows; mostly Once Upon a Time- and my favorite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean, and I like Titanic as well. Yet in a book I don't want too much romance. Maybe a little, but nothing too cheesy and oredictable.

So, any book suggestions?

You seem to have fairly broad interests. All of these are fantasy books that I've enjoyed and which don't have too much romance.

Reckless and it's sequel Fearless, both of which include many fairy-tale elements.
Inkheart and the rest of the trilogy.
The Amulet of Samarkand and the rest of the trilogy.
So You Want to Be a Wizard? and the rest of the Young Wizards series.
The Wee Free Men and it's sequels.
Fablehaven and the rest of the series.
Howl's Moving Castle and it's sequels.
The Graveyard Book.
Uglies and the rest of the series. These fit more towards the Hunger Games than the rest of the books you listed.
The Last Unicorn.
Ella Enchanted, Just Ella and Cinder are all retellings of Cinderella.

I have read several books that I would want to list here but... there are so many and I'm at work and can't post them all so I will leave you with a link to my 75 challenge topic the second post of the thread has a list of eveything that I have read this year here.... below are the books and my opinions on them.... i hope they are helpful to you.... and others....

Off the top of my head, three recent YA books I've really liked:

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (may not come out until September). Mainstream, but main character writes fanfic set in a "Simon Snow" (aka Harry Potter) universe

Vessel by Sarah Beth Durst. Lovely desert-based fantasy novel.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. Historical YA that is very intense and moving.

Iron King by Julie Kagawa that whole series is great!!
Legend by Marie Lu
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Ignite by kaitlyn davis- another awesome series

I loved Brandon Mull's Beyonders Trilogy and I just finished John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice Book 4 (with 8 more books to go). They are both great series especially if you enjoyed Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.

If you like fantasy - Harry Potter style try
The Dark is Rising Series by Susan Cooper - lots of magic, suspense and thrills.

If you are looking for something much darker try anything by Robert Cormier although my favourites are
The chocolate War
Heroes
We All Fall Down

I recommend a short, subtle, dystopian, funny book called OUT by M.J. Schwartz.

...and anything by David Sedaris

I would second your David Sedaris comment - saw him live at Edinburgh festival last week ... he was outstanding!
