Wikipedia has it as follows:
Cao Xueqin (Chinese: 曹雪芹; pinyin: Cáo Xuěqín; Wade–Giles: Ts'ao Hsueh-ch'in, (17151 or 17242 – 17631 or 17643), with both the date of birth and the year of death disputed. 1715 according to a Western source, and 1724 according to a Chinese source.
The Chinese mirror of the Wikipedia page on says:
曹雪芹(约1715年-约1763年)注 1; The date of birth is not disputed, but the note following the year of death suggests an alternative year of death.
