Both Emily and Navin end up getting separated in an attempt to keep Navin safe. However, once Navin gets to where he is headed, he learns that Emily isn’t safe and he decides to go on his own mission to save her. Many of those around him decide that it is in their best interest to go with him and help him succeed. They do save her, but it comes at a cost for the house in which they are residing.
Emily struggles through most of the book, she is fighting against the amulet. The amulet talks to her and tells her to let it take control and it can help her save herself and those she loves most. She doesn’t want to let that happen and the fight is draining her on so many different levels.
We learned in this book that their biggest enemy is the Elf King and we learned how he’d come about. We learned that one of her best allies is the son of a guard that the Elf King had killed. And we learned a whole lot of other history. We mostly learned that even though things aren’t going as one would like, that Emily and Navin are up to the fight and the challenge needed to protect those around them and those they care deeply about.
