sci-fi fantasy woman with powers falls for Death who is Fae

She has some kind of powers and is opening her own business. Fae are 'out' in the real world, but things are complicated. She falls in love with Death who is a Fae (maybe a prince) who is bound to his queen. One of the portals to the fae kingdom is through a portal in a restaurant. Her best friend disappeared and I think she was trapped in either the far world or an alternate dimension. I think I read it about 4-5 years ago. Part of a series.

Fae/elves/fairies interacting with modern-age humans is a healthy publishing nitche. I'm not very well read in it, but here are some popular names:

On the young-adult side, check through the works of Holly Black, Melissa Marr, and Maggie Stiefvater.

On the adult side, try Charles de Lint, Mercedes Lackey, Laurell K. Hamilton, and maybe Vera Nazarian (she definitely has a series about Death, not sure about a fae/magic element).

I think the young-adult authors are a better bet for your described plot.
