Why should we concern ourselves with the last days of a dictator who to most was an evil man in behaviour and intent? Indeed, why should so many words have been devoted to Adolf Hitler's last moments when they had little consequence relative to the preceding years? The answer surrounds the words contained in the subtitle of this book: that the final weeks of his life saw Hitler in a deteriorating mental state, physical illhealth and liable to fits of gross irrationality, and that these conditions served to shroud his demise in controversy and myth. Anton oachimsthaler has delved into unprecedented depths of research and investigating to achieve a defining story of the events of Aprii 1945. He is able to discount many false theories, strengthen certain assumptions and establish an account that can dispel the doubts. He assesses the views of witnesses but makes no use of hearsay evidence.
