Slightly complex beginning reader. Nice that their mom is the scientist!

This book is about a little boy who learns about horse shoe crabs and watches them lay eggs on the beach in the middle of the night with his mother. It is a fascinating experience as he watches the horse shoe crabs reproduce and then head towards the water; then next morning he wakes up to find one of the horse shoe crabs flipped over so she can't move. He helps her flip over so that she can go back into the water.

This book is a story of a boy who stays at a beach when the horseshoe crabs hatch and leave the beach to go into the ocean. His mother explains to him how this happens as they watch the process. The next morning, Daniel goes back out and finds a crab that was stuck on its back, so he helps to flip the crab over.
I would say that this book is a realistic fiction book because there are realistic facts and a thing that would actually happen. For example, it is realistic that a family could go and watch the crabs hatch and go into the ocean. I personally classify this as realistic fiction instead of informational because the book's information is imbedded in a story rather than explicitly outlining the information.

The story itself might not be true, however the events throughout the story have happened before in real life. It does a good job of taking a family vacation (like one we have all taken with our families) and turning it into a science discover (finding the horseshoe crabs). It also allows the boy to be a hero in the end as he picks up a horseshoe crab himself and moves it.… (altro)
