majkia: Both feature war-torn landscapes, confusing and conflicting motivations for main characters, and focus on complex characters whose loyalties are strained and oftentimes change.
saltmanz: If you love the Malazan Book of the Fallen (or even just the Bridgeburners) chances are you'll also enjoy Glen Cook's "Chronicles of the Black Company" series.
Donogh: Recommending the second book of a series based on the fact that you've read the first - that's pretty weak usually. But I think it's worthwhile. Why? Because Gardens of the Moon is a poorly written and confusing book. If I'd not been forewarned and told that The Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice were significantly better I would've dropped this series in an instant.
So if the world seemed interesting but you didn't like this, do yourself a favour: stick with it and pick up The Deadhouse Gates… (altro)
WeeTurtle: Third in the Malazan Series but acts as the sequel to Gardens of the Moon, specifically. Recommended even if one decides not to continue through the entire series.
Arrivata con molta fatica a pag. 279, mi sono trovata a fare il conto di quante pagine mancavano alla fine ed ho deciso di porre fine alla sofferenza, abbandonando Erikson al suo destino. Forse, senza il fallimentare incontro con Ratner's Star, avrei continuato sino alla fine, ma non credo che il mio giudizio sarebbe stato diverso. La sensazione di estraneità iniziale è cresciuta nel corso della lettura, come se avessi iniziato la saga dalla metà e non dal primo volume, grazie agli improvvisi salti temporali ed ai riferimenti a luoghi, eventi e personaggi sconosciuti. Mi sta bene un inizio in "medias res", ma mi piace anche capire il contesto delle vicende, senza dover ricorrere a Wikipedia per il riassunto. I personaggi, poi, sono solo "nomi", per quanto altisonanti, poco caratterizzati e spinti da motivi incomprensibili. Secondo molte recensioni, La dimora fantasma è meglio de I giardini della luna, ma la mia lista di libri da leggere è già troppo lunga così, per offrire a "La caduta di Malazan" un'altra possibilità .
