The get ready, get going guide to navigating career change and doing work you love! New York Times bestselling author Jon Acuff has drawn millions of online fans who love his refreshing mix of humor, honesty, and wisdom about the world of work. Now he offers his most important book yet, a guide to making big career changes-by choice or necessity-and escaping the horrible feeling of being trapped in the wrong job. Acuff finds it amazing that people spend more than eighteen years studying and preparing for college but little or no time honing their careers between graduation and retirement. He offers an empowering tool he calls the Career Savings Account, which will change the way you think about your skills, relationships, character, and work ethic. He also shows that if you're on the wrong track, you already have what you need to change it-even if your family and mortgage mean you can't simply pick up and move for a new opportunity. Throughout the book, Acuff features inspiring and funny true stories-not merely his own but those of friends who restarted their careers after a layoff, an extended maternity leave, or simply the realization that they were suffering fifty weeks a year just to pay the bills and enjoy two weeks of vacation. Everyone can benefit from Do Over, from new graduates to fiftysomethings and beyond.… (altro)

This was pretty good. It had some useful advice I hadn't considered, good anecdotes, and an engaging author (I listened to the audio version). ( )

Offers excellent tools to use for your career along with the reminder to have fun.
Developing skills is a big take away from this book. Scuff offers a few activities to get you thinking about what skills you have, skills you need and how to get them. He also talks about building up your own network of support to help with any skills development.

A very good book that should not be constrained to the narrow confines of a "career advice" classification. The advice in here can be applied to anything. I especially enjoyed the chapter on generosity. ( )

Not bad. Good solid career advice regarding networking and character building in anticipation of career changes. . In the audio version, the author diverts from the reading and goes on a few asides. It seems to work well. ( )

Quick tips for those underwhelmed by their work. Hardly distinct others of it's ilk, but informative nonetheless. ( )

For Jenny, of course.

When you're a mailman, you shouldn't ask people if you can use their bathroom.

In hindsight, I probably didn't need to learn that lesson via personal experience. And yet, there I stood on the front steps with today's mail and an awkward request.
