- Informazione su di me
- Hello. I'm Jerry Yoakum. Let's see - what describes me? My favorite title has been that of father. Raising a daughter who loves reading and space means a lot to me. I love my daughter. Her bringing books to me to read to her always made my day.
Getting outdoors to go canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and biking is important to me. My friends tell me that I read too much nonfiction which could be true. I do make an effort to read some fiction to balance things out.
My blog, Jerry Yoakum: Cogitation about Computing, that is almost entirely focused on software engineering. I reference a lot of "old" articles and books because I want to drive home that we should not delude ourselves into thinking that that we stand apart from the founders of computing. We should learn from them; otherwise, we just make the same mistakes over again.
I believe in being familiar with all religions and philosophies in order to be a well-rounded person. I do recommend [The Meaning of Life: Perspectives from the World's Great Intellectual Traditions] by The Teaching Company as a good source for independent study. I've also found Stoicism to be very helpful. [A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy] is a good book.
Sincerely,
Jerry Yoakum
