Most of the characters were judgmental and unfair so I didn't really like any of them (only Carmen). ( ) I listened to the audiobook of this and I didn't love it. I just found it a little bland. I finished it last week and I can barely even remember what it was about. It's a family that goes on vacation with issues, and some of the secrets come out. It's one of those that they hint that something is wrong, like the husband had cheated on the wife, so you get hints about it for a while before it comes to light. In the end, everyone is happy. Even though he cheated, they get back together, which annoyed me because even in the book, when it's the husband's perspective, he talks about how nice it was to be with a much younger woman. Maybe I missed the point along the way. The gay couple got a child. The young girl got banged and then ignored. I don't know...I feel like the women weren't treated very well in this book, yet they were content or happy. This just didn't click with me and maybe I missed the message of the whole book. I loved Emma's other book "This Time Tomorrow" so I was really hoping to love this one as well. The back of this book led me to think it would funny, like a Jonathan Tropper book. It's not. Funny I mean. Actually it quite boring. The Post family go on a two week vacation to Mallorca. The Post family also invite Charles and Lawrence a gay couple are best friends of Franny (mrs. Post). Every character in this book is a clichéd stereotype, and again not funny. Mr. Post is 60 years old and has been married for 35 years, I think. The big revelation with him is he has been fired from his job for having sex with a 23 year old intern. Oh yeah that's plausible. Maybe if he was Hugh Hefner, but not some editor at a magazine. Franny is a deeply shallow women who now gets to act as the wounded woman as well. Yet she is completely self absorbed and ignorant to boot. Their daughter Sylvia s an 18 year old virgin who is as ignorant and naive of the world as a similar teenager was in the TV show Happy Days or Leave it to Beaver. Then their is the 28 year old son Bobby (who after 12 years of age goes by Bobby) who lives in Miami with his girlfriend Carmen (who is also on the vacation) who is a fitness instructor and 10 years older than he is. She is the smartest and most likable of everyone in the book. Lastly there is Charles and Lawrence who are married, one is older than the other but otherwise they are the token stereotypical gay couple thrown in to show the family has Good Manhattan beliefs, and are trying to adopt a baby. You know secrets are going to get exposed to everyone, but you also expect it to be either a painful learning experience or funny. In this book it is neither. At the end of the book the Post family is just as selfish and shallow as they were in the beginning. Thank god this is a four to five hour read max. The editing is also pathetic with the author getting the time difference between Spain and NYC backwards at least twice, and descriptions of day and night happening in the blink of an eye with zero continuity. This book is as deep as US weekly and about as interesting. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
