The sexy baseball players of Jennifer Seasons' Diamonds and Dugouts series are back with the story of a single mom, a hot rookie, and a second chance at love. Single mother Sonny Miller has spent years avoiding love. A rotten childhood and an even rottener ex-boyfriend left her determined to protect her son--and herself--against the risks of romance. That is, until hotshot ballplayer JP Trudeau swaggers into her carefully constructed life, all sin-with-me eyes and irresistible grin. Sonny can't help but feel drawn to the sexy, confident man, even as every fiber of her being tells her to keep running the bases . . . JP is known for being fast on his feet, not fast with his heart. But meeting Sonny and her boy sparks something in him--something he's never felt before, not from all the cleat- chasers in the major leagues. Sonny may be hell-bent on keeping him at arm's length no matter what, but this rookie has a plan. To get the girl, he must step up to the plate and convince her to take another chance on love . . . before this game gets rained out.… (altro)

Loved this story! A super sexy ball player who is kind, loving, and not caught up in the glitz and glamour, what's not to love?? When JP meets single mom, Sonny Miller, he's a goner. Now getting her to give him a chance. Great storytelling, writing, and characters make this a book you will want to read. I highly recommend it. ( )

Playing the Field is the second book in Jennifer Season’s Diamonds & Dugouts series. In this book shortstop JP Trudeau meets single mom Sonny Miller when her son Charlie is invited to a charity event at the Rush stadium. Sonny is not looking forward to the event as it occurs on the dreaded Saturday, the day of the week when all bad things in her life have occurred. On this Saturday, however, her luck has changed even if she doesn’t realize it at first. When JP sees Sonny he is a goner and sets out to make her see that she is the perfect man for her and her son. When Sonny sees JP she sees a handsome, cocky, athlete who seems to be hitting on her and she can’t imagine doing anything about it.
What I liked about this book is that Sonny doesn’t get all gooey over meeting a celebrity. There is an instant attraction to JP but his celebrity is actually a turnoff to her and she just can’t seem to let go of all her past issues and take a chance. JP has to work hard to earn her trust and to show her that he is interested in a serious relationship not just a fling. JP is younger than Sonny but that isn’t a big issue for her. I also liked that there was an actual plot to this book unlike some of the sports based romances that are just one sex scene after another with little in between. You get to know the other players and their stories as well as Sonny’s friends. There is a minor subplot of Charlie being diabetic and it is handled very responsibly. JP and Sonny both make some mistakes along the way but the ending is satisfying. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. ( )
