Fiction. Science Fiction. HTML:

You want more time Mr Brown, of course you do. We all want more time. Let me make you an offer...'

Andrew Brown never has enough time. No time to call his sister, or to prepare for that important presentation at the bank where he works. The train's late, the lift jams. If only he'd had just a little more time. And time is the business of Mr Symington and Mr Blenkinsop. They'll lend him some - at a very reasonable rate of interest.

Detecting a problem, the Doctor, Amy and Rory go undercover at the bank. But they have to move fast to stop Symington and Blenkinsop before they cash in their investments.

Read by Meera Syal, this is a thrilling all-new adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the spectacular hit series from BBC Television.

The Eleventh Doctor is hard to write in novel form, and this book misses the mark. And it engaged in the kind of terrible time travel that the TV series usually avoids, but this range of novels seems unable to resist. I'm tempted to read one of this author's other books because she's well-liked enough that they can't possibly all be this bad. ( )

I've never read any fan fiction before. To be honest I'm not really sure this qualifies, but at any rate, I loved it. It's a quirky tale with unseen twist and turns worthy of Doctor Who. Naomi Alderman is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I hope that she will not only continue to write such diverse and interesting books, but maybe take a stab at an actual Doctor Who episode as well. ( )

This was a great Dr. Who story for addressing the idea of relative time, how one's own personal experienced flow of time may not match up neatly with that of the rest of the universe. My sister hates Amy, and I must admit that Amy is a bit abrasive and short on good dialogue, but she is not too bad in this book. The Doctor is believably written, as is Rory, and the bad guys are fun. I do wonder about the name of one of the bad guys, which seems to also be the name of a bad guy in a TV episode, though it doesn't seem terribly likely that the two are the same. ( )

There never seems to be enough time in the day to get things done. But what if there was a way you could borrow time? For a fee, there are folks who can arrange that. The possibilities are limitless—or are they? What’s in the fine print of this agreement anyway?

This was an excellent Eleventh Doctor adventure. It’s set in 2007 just before the credit crunch, so the parallels of borrowing time and borrowing money are fairly obvious, but the story is well done. I did think Symington and Blenkinsop had a slight touch of Croup and Vandemar about them (cf. Neverwhere), but that perhaps goes to show how influential Neil Gaiman’s work is.

The only real beef I had with this book was the font size and margins. The margins were huge and the font was on the smallish side. Not sure why that particular combination was chosen; it made a bit of a squinty read. Nevertheless, this is a great story and one I’d recommend if you’re looking to scratch an Eleventh Doctor itch. This book is for my brother, Eliot Alderman. Because Doctor Who has always been the place we share. And for my cousin Samuel West, whose request that I should write something for him to read was where this book began.

The thing about the Lexington International Bank ladder was that it was very exhausting, and so Andrew Brown didn't have a lot of time to think about whether he really wanted to get to the top of it.
It's important to have a dream: otherwise you might notice where you really are.
