Horror Book, Possibly 2, from 70s-80s (Spoiler Ahead)

This one is set in contemporary times when written and I may be mixing 2 books in my memory. I read it/them in the 70s or 80s, though it may be from a bit earlier. Male protagonist.

The two things I remember are at the beginning of the book, a nerdy boy convinces a pretty, but slutty girl to have sex with him. He does this by talking her into trying it while wearing masks. She enjoys it and is telling him so afterwards. He takes out some sort of cutting implement and beheads her.

Spoiler

2nd thing. At one point the hero finds the bodies of his girlfriend or one night stand and another female in a pool, fountain or large bathtub. Their heads have been cut off and swapped.

That's the only 2 things I remember. It helped turn me off of reading those type stories. I just didn't have the stomach for it.

I've had this up over at Goodreads for while. I've eliminated:

Blood Games and Resurrection Dreams by Richard Laymon
Switch by William Bayer
Headhunter by Michael Slade
Shadow Stalker by Jorge Saralegui

How do I get the correct Blood Games to link? The one I used is for the Chelsea Quinn Yarbro title.

When you insert it like this, Blood Games, select "(others)" and choose the plus sign next to the correct one.

(Sorry, not a scene I've read. Good luck!)

Would you say for sure these were novels, not short fiction memories?

I don't know the genre off-hand but found this Wikipedia list of horror fiction writers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_horror_fiction_writers

What you could do is scan the list of authors for anyone who would be writing in the 1970s (e.g. born in 1930s, 1940s) and see whether they're a likely prospect, then investigate their work. Not an easy task, but you don't seem to be making headway.

I don't know this/these book(s), I'm afraid, but have you considered reading Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix? He covers a bunch of 70s and 80s horror novels, and while he doesn't summarize them all, he does break them down by trend/topic and include lots of cover art that might look familiar.

>32 Bargle5: Curses, I'm sorry! I wish I knew more about splatterpunk authors, since it seems as if the stories you describe would fit in that subgenre of horror, but I've only read Skipp & Spector's The Light at the End, which is definitely not the book(s) you're looking for. :(

Reminds me of a part of "The Dome" by Stephen King. Jim Junior Rennie coming unhinged and killing two girls.
