I received this small well bound book as an Early Review give away. Buster is a full bred boxer who meets many challenges in his life as he gets bounced from one caregiver to another. He is a sweet, loving dog who keeps his good disposition in spite of the hardships he expereinces. The book is entertaining and a fast read.

The third helping of Nick Stefanos that Pelecanos offers up is his best yet and truly shows his early growth as an author. The three books together form a foundational trilogy that any fan of detective fiction should seek out.

Humor, music, alcolholism, murder... it's a fast-paced combination of all that.

Nick Stefanos knows bartending, cars, guns, music... I don't really need or like all those music references, it feels meh.

It's fun otherwise, if I happen to find a few more of the series for cheap, I'd take them.

Novellas set in the Washington DC area. Not Pelecanos' usual crime fare. Instead he delves into stories about families and coming-of-age. These are well-crafted stories that mix local color with believable characters, interesting plots and plenty of historical context. I liked how he followed his protagonists forward in time at the end. Totally engaging.
