Bryony and her crow, Shakespeare, find themselves onboard the Black Armada with a plan to find a sword. But this plan falls apart when Bryony learns the information she knew might be incorrect. This is an adventure and romance story between Bryony and Michael, who both had bad first impressions of each other. The story follows Bryony and her perspective, but there are many characters involved in the adventure.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future rules by angels, this story follows the crew of the Black Armada, a band of pirate who are distributing banned books.. Enter Bryony, a god with healing powers, and Shakespeare, her crow, who are seeking refuge.

I loved the concept of this book. The world was such an interesting one! I loved the characters bonding over their shared love of books (great to see as a bookworm!). It had some absolutely spectacular lines (seriously, go look at the first ones!). I loved Bryony and Shakespeare although I wasn't that fond of the fact that their relationship was used as a way to state information. Even so, I was a little confused at times but I'm sure a lot of this will be cleared up later in the series.

I'd recommend this book to those who are interested in a pirate based fantasy romance!½

Godhunter is a quirky story with an unusual setting. Angels are monster, terrorising humans and waging war on knowledge. Humans can turn into gods by gathering worshipers.
At first, I had a little trouble getting into the story. It took me some time to figure out the basic setting of this world. It took me as much time to warm to Byony, the main character. While the characters are likeable enough, I never got truly sucked in, and at time I had trouble keeping some of the characters apart. I saw some of the plot points coming well ahead of time.
So in summary, I would call this a nice read, but not necessarily a "you have to read this" book. I'd probably pick up the next one in the series though, to see where the characters are headed.

Bryony Moss didn’t plan to become a god, but accidents happen, and giving up immortality once you have it is easier said than done. Convinced her life is in danger, she infiltrates the crew of the infamous Black Armada with plans to dispatch their godhunter before she is discovered. But all her plans begin to unravel as soon as she learns the truth. To top it off, she seems to be falling for the flagship’s navigator, a kind but isolated giant named Michael.
Godhunter was a wonderful book. The world was interesting because it feels like it takes place in the past, but it is actually set in the “post-apocalyptic” future after a plaque kills off a large portion of humanity. I liked the character of Bryony but wished the story included more about her back story and her transition into a god. I enjoyed the found family aspect of Bryony’s time on the Black Armada. The chemistry between Bryony and Michael was well written and endearing. A large part of the story is about Bryony as she struggles with her status as a god, her immortality, and the morality of doing away with the godhunter.
The book ties up in a way that doesn’t leave you on a cliffhanger, but with enough open questions that makes you eager for the sequel. The storyline is different and exciting. I loved all the characters. Overall, this is a great first installment in a new series.
Thanks to LibraryThing, Isobel Lynn, and Attic Wall Books for providing a complimentary copy of this book in hopes that I will leave my unbiased review. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and the above review is simply my opinion of the book.

I absolutely loved this book! There’s so many twists and turns it’s not funny! I found myself at the edge of my seat the whole book trying to figure out who the godhunter was! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

If there is a reason I did not give it 5 stars, which is the beginning. I felt the book would be too “young” for me in terms of vocabulary and the main character. However, I very rarely give 5 stars and in fact, as the book progressed progressed I found myself completely absorbed by it. I really enjoyed the story and character development and actually look forward to the rest of the trilogy!! Thank you for the fantastic opportunity to read!!!

Oh my goodness this book blew me away! The premise intrigued me but I was unsure what to expect. What I didn't see coming was that this book would be one of my favorite books I've read this year! Bryony and Michaels' chemistry was so well written I found my own emotions rising and falling right alongside them. I was a bit lost at the beginning of the book but once I found my footing I was enraptured. Throughout the book I had such a clear picture of the Black Armada in my mind and it truly felt like I had set sail on Dragonfly with Raeni and her crew. Of course, I must also mention that the talking crow sidekick was a great addition to this wonderful story. I can't wait to read more of the Tyranny of Angels series!

Godhunter is a unique and beautifully written story that pairs romantasy with some post-apocalypse, gothic vibes seamlessly.
Pirates smuggling and distributing banned books to communities feels so timely and is a new take on the “pirates doing good” trope and I absolutely loved it. The FMC is easy to root for and I was genuinely so happy she was finding her way and making a new family in the Black Armada. Isobel Lynn does a wonderful job of conveying emotions in her writing in a way that allows the reader to feel invested in the characters.
The book ties up in a way that doesn’t leave you on a gut wrenching cliffhanger while still leaving enough crumbs to make you ready for a sequel. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this and appreciated the unique aspects. I feel like many fantasy, particularly romantasy, books are all starting to blend together now and this definitely stands apart.

There are a few things preventing me from giving 5 stars but absolutely nothing that would prevent me from recommending this book.
I would have loved a bit more backstory on Bryony becoming a god and her relationship with Shakespeare. I feel like I was left with unanswered questions and lacked a full picture of how we got to where we are today. At times I found myself slightly annoyed with Bryony’s relationship with Michael. It toes the line of the miscommunication trope just a little too much for me, especially when both of them are such kind individuals…just talk to each other! I also felt like the ending could have used 1 or 2 more chapters. It all seemed to move along so quickly that there wasn’t enough time to process what was taking place.
My hope is that some of these things will be addressed in the coming books, which I am incredibly excited to read.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy for free and this is my honest review.

I received this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers.

I loved this book. It tells the story of Bryony, a small town god, in a post-apocalyptic world ruled by angels. Bryony goes in search of a godhunter she believes will kill her and, in the process, goes on a voyage of discovery in which she finds herself, learns that her allies may not be real allies and her enemies may not be actual enemies, and discovers what it means to love and be loved.

The story is told well with good pacing, well rounded characters and very assured writing. The characters and their world are beautifully portrayed and are believable. It all adds up to an enjoyable read and the promise of a series worth following.
