Kimberly Belle

It’s been a while since I’ve read a novel by Kimberly Belle and I felt in the mood for a suspenseful thriller, so it seemed perfect timing to read Stranger in the Lake. Charlotte lives in a small lake community in North Carolina where she was raised. She married an older, wealthy, widowed man who is often the subject of whispers and gossip. Paul’s first wife suspiciously drowned in the lake where their magnificent house rests on its shore. Early one morning, Charlotte discovers the body of a mysterious woman floating in the lake where Paul’s wife was found four years earlier. Immediately, things start falling apart and Charlotte doesn’t know if she can trust her husband. She starts lying to the police and trying to uncover her husband’s secrets.

I like finishing a book and feel I got much more than I anticipated when I initially read the title description and started reading. Stranger in the Lake left me with that exact feeling. The story went in a direction I didn’t expect; not just with the “who done it” mystery, but the decisions the characters consequently made. I was pleasantly surprised to develop a growing respect and admiration for Charlotte. Initially, I didn’t suspect she would be a strong character who made tough decisions. She’s a character people can look up to.

I enjoyed this book of suspense, secrets, lies, and murder. It was great to read another book by this talented author and satisfy my craving for a mystery thriller. It’s always a pleasure to listen to an audiobook narrated by Xe Sands. I borrowed the audiobook of Stranger in the Lake from my local library through the Hoopla app.

Stella and her husband, Adam are on a trip of a lifetime. They are on their final stop in Paris and enjoying every minute…until there is a random explosion at a cafe and Adam is now missing!

Stella turns Paris upside down looking for Adam. But, during this process she learns quite a few things about her husband she never expected. Everything she thought she knew about her husband is a lie. And now her life is endanger too!

This story just keeps building and building as Stella tries to uncover the truth. Stella is a tough woman and she just gets tougher and smarter as this story moves along…and moves along it does. This is fast paced and exciting and left me breathless in places.

This book takes you all over Paris! And what a chase it is! Talk about keeping me entertained all the way through!!! I loved the intensity…and the lies!

What kind of business was Adam in? How could his wife Stella not know?

Adam and Stella were taking a three-week European vacation that ended in Paris.

As they were ready to head back to the hotel, Adam said he forgot his sunglasses at the restaurant and heads there. Stella heads back to the hotel. A few minutes after he leaves Stella, an explosion rocks the entire area.

Was leaving his glasses an excuse to get back to the restaurant to do something more sinister than pick up the glasses or did someone spot him and caused the explosion which was for him?

Stella is stunned but unharmed, but where is Adam?

Will she be alone in a foreign country to deal with all of this on her own?

Is she in danger now?

But the main question is what has Adam been up to for all these years?

You will find out as Ms. Belle beautifully describes Europe and keeps your attention with the tension and unraveling of all that's going on.

Readers are never disappointed in a Kimberley Belle book, and the surprises will have you saying what??
