Greer Hendricks is an American author and editor, based in Manhattan. She is a graduate of Columbia University, where she earned a master's in Journalism while working at Allure magazine. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times and Publishers Weekly. From 1994-2014 she worked at Simon and mostra altro Schuster first, as an assistant editor, then went on to become an editor. She edited numerous writers. That is where she met Sarah Pekkanen and became her editor. After leaving Simon and Schuster they decided to write a novel together. The Wife Between Us: A Novel di Greer Hendricks
I really enjoyed this thriller, but I’m not sure why the last little bit was necessary. It was like the author was trying too hard to make one last twist. It just felt forced and rushed. Otherwise, it was pretty good!
This is my first time reading a book by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I picked up The Getaway from one of Audible’s amazing offers awhile ago. Kate Mara’s narration made for a fantastic listening experience!
Chloe, a former press secretary, recently lost her job when her boss lost a reelection campaign. She is enticed for a weekend getaway by a flier posted at her yoga studio advertising organic meals on a private lakefront property. The offer looks incredibly inviting for a restorative weekend. Chloe immediately begins to experience some red flags when another guest doesn’t show up at the pick-up location, and there are no other guests when she is escorted to the property. Well, one other guest does eventually show up, and that’s when things really start to get creepy!
I’m so glad I never attended a weekend retreat like this one! The suspenseful build-up in this story was perfect. With a listening time of roughly two and a half hours, the story was well executed. I generally have a hard time liking short stories, but I loved this one. It was the perfect length to set the scene, introduce the characters, and start creating the mystery. I like how the story was initially told from Chloe’s perspective, and then it began rotating between her and the other guest, Helen. The entire story was extremely clever!

It was great. But the twists are sort of random. It felt forced. But still an interesting enough read.
It's just too much like every other psychological thriller being written today. sigh
