When Rebecca is blackmailed in to running for president, she has no choice. Its when she wins that she is surprised. When she starts uncovering family secrets, she learns that someone is out to assassinate her.

The Review

An intriguing read from page one. One major positive for me in this book is that Rebecca is such a strong character. She has so much pain early in life and really steps up to the plate for a home run when needed. She handles a lot of ongoing problems around her so strongly. This book had so much action many mysteries that I could not put it down. Kind of a little scary though reading some parts as it hits close to home and makes you wonder how much of the political problems mentioned and depicted are actually happening under our noses. I truly couldn’t believe that this was the author’s 1st book given how amazing it was. A true nail biter from the first page to the last. This is definitely a book to be up and coming and wont soon be forgotten!… (altro)

At times, the novel seemed to be traveling through mud...than again, those were the places where political discussions and such were taking place. I admit, I don't understand much about the government and I believe that is why I had so many issues.
This novel spotlighted what could happen if/when America's people stop caring and allow bad politicians to run with their own corrupt agendas. It also shows that if you are willing to fight, there just may be a way to undo some of the damage and repair our country.
Despite the obvious political background of this novel, it is above all, a story about family and about never giving up on uncovering something that happened when Rebecca Tree was around 3 or 4 years old. The mystery is drawn out and the drama gets so intense, you may find yourself literally holding your breath.
The author paints such a vivid picture that you can escape into Rebecca's world and feel what is taking place. Apart from the politic fightings (although some were enjoyable), this is an amazing book. It is well worth the four stars even with the "flaws" since they are a necessary evil to this novel.

One of the things you can do if you are really, really rich is to indulge a passion. Fortunately for many Chicago-area children (not to mention adults), Mrs. James Ward Thorne had a passion for miniature interiors, as well as money. After years of collecting miniatures, she conceived the idea of creating miniature rooms, depicting real and imagined rooms from a variety of countries and eras. And then, in 1940, she donated them to the Art Institute of Chicago (which, outrageously, sold some of them, which ultimately landed in Phoeniz, AZ and Knoxville, TN).

This book contains photographs and detailed descriptions of the rooms at the AIOC.
