I am planning to buy an edition of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, but am hesitating over the many translations that are available. I insist on an unabridged and unsanitized version.

I have seen both the Ralph Manheim (1977) and Margaret Hunt (1884) translations praised. Do members of this group have particular translations that they can recommend?

Thank you.

The Jack Zipes's is an excellent one.

I am also looking for an unabridged, unsanitized edition of the Brothers Grimm tales.

I'd like to ask if The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm all-new third edition has the version of Rapunzel where it is implied that she is pregnant?

I read that the 1812 version of the story says that. But it was changed in 1857.

I am hoping to get a book that retains the original writing (but translated to english :-P ).

I would greatly appreciate any help! I'm looking to order that book on Amazon soon.

Thank you!!

ulan25, I might be wrong, but I believe the Jack Zipes's edition is 'unsanitized'.

This translation of the first edition was just published in October. It would be worth looking into: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0691160597/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&...
