There are a number of remarkable bookstores in Florence; however, if you are starved for the English language these are my recommendations in no particular order. B M Bookshop is on Borgo Ognissanti, just off the piazza. It is small but has a well selected stock of new and used books with a particular strength in cooking. Mcrae Bookstore is on Via de Neri, near the Uffizzi. Paperback Exchange is on Via della Oche, two blocks south of the Duomo. If you continue walking east you will find Pegna- a great gourmet food and wine shop. On the west side of the Piazza della Republica is Edison which has a good selection of English language books. On a side note, the tabachi shop immediately south of Edison has a wonderful selection of Cuban cigars. Finally, there is the omnipresent Feltrinelli on Via Cavour a couple of blocks up from the Duomo; however, I think Edison has the superior selection of books in English.
