W is in downtown SD at 726 E. Broadway. It has three floors of mostly used books with concentrations in California, Mexico and Western Americana. It is the premier used bookstore in SD. Its staff is very knowledgeable and the prices are fair. A number of years ago, my daughter fell in love with the movie: "Somewhere In Time". I was going back to northern Michigan to visit family, so I decided to treat her to a stay in the Mackinac Island Hotel which was where the movie was filmed. Before leaving I stopped by W to find the book the movie was based on: "Bid Time Return" by Richard Matheson. I did not find the book; however, upon enquiry the W's owner, Chuck Valverde, told me this: Matheson wrote the book in SD while staying at the Hotel Coronado- the hotel in the book- an old victorian pile not uinlike the Mackinac. Moreover. in the movie Reeves enters a bookstore to research the identity of the actress whose picture had captivated him. In the book that bookstore is the W. Talk about small world and a little eerie to say the least.
