Talking animals moving from one place to another

I remember a lot about this book, but I can't recall the title! The story was along the lines of a group of talking animals moving form one place to another because of pollution or construction. I think the main characters included a fox and a badger. I remember that many of the animals died on the journey, but they did make it in the end. I'm not sure but I think there was an animated adaption. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Except for the species of the main characters, Watership Down fits the general plot.

I second The Animals of Farthing Wood, as a fox and a badger (named Fox and Badger) were two of the main characters. I recall short books based on the TV series as well, but I may be wrong.
