While I was initially surprised to get a novella (clearly I didn't preview the title in as much detail as I thought), the story is a very interesting read as it is written from Buster's point of view. Throughout, it felt like the author was in tune with his doggy persona, and either is or perhaps was a pet owner himself. Buster's experiences feel authentic to how a dog might feel given the different circumstances of the story. The author also adds excellent color to the story of the neighborhoods, with different smells and sounds that take you deeper into the story. Throughout, you feel as if you are experiencing and feeling what Buster did. While I know nothing of life in D.C., the story felt believable knowing how the different neighborhoods in my city feel. It is also authentic to my own experiences that while a dog may love the whole family, it does choose a person that it belongs to. All together, a good read for any animal person.… (altro)

This is the first book from this author that I have read and I would definitely read more. The book held my interest and made me feel like I was going through the experience with the dog. My only complaint about the book is that it was too short! I read the whole book in an hour.

A unique perspective of family, love, loss, and death from the eyes of a dog. It is a thoughtful interpretation that does well to capture to fears, loyalties, and innocence of dogs as well as all the ways people care for and mistreat them. A quick read, it tugs at the reader's emotions. The prose is not overly stated, suitable for a dog narrator with an understanding of English.

From a pup to an aged dog, Buster: A Dog speaks the language of a a gentle, loyal dog. Buster goes from master to master, good and bad, caring and volatile. He 'tells' in no uncertain terms what his feelings are and how he likes living his life.

An imaginative story that has been told many times. Short, easy to read, and full of dogginess.

Thank you to LibraryThing Early Reviewers, Akashic Books, and George Pelecanos for this ARC.
