Susannah Nix is an award-winning and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Texas with her husband, two ornery cats, and a flatulent pit bull. The Characters:

Esther Abbot
Jonathan
Jenny (BFF), Yemi (coworker)

The Story:

An enemies to lovers romance. I found it to be better than okay but not overly impressive. I just liked everything enough to keep going. Some parts of the story did get a little boring but they passed in a fairly timely manner. Both characters have a fairly complicated family dynamic and a small circle of friends. Esther has to do a lot to conquer her relationship fears.

Kilt to Order is a cute little romance full of engaging characters and youthful exuberance. Casey is, uh, shall we say inexperienced. No dates, no boyfriends, no nothing. She finally goes on a blind date and it’s a disaster. Or imagine something worse than a disaster. So Casey decides that it’s way past time she get moving, get a life, catch up! She’s living in a house owned by her parents with her older brother and his roommates who just happen to be Highland Athletes. You know, muscly men in kilts. Kind of like a frat house at times. Her very protective big brother and the roommates look out for her. Nice, but come on, she’s a big girl. She knows what she wants and what she needs. And she is determined to get it.

Gareth is one of the roommates and her brother’s best friend. One of those handsome hunky kilt guys, and a firefighter to boot. Two-for-one. He’s got a rep that he takes pains to maintain, but he’s actually at the library studying most of the nights everyone thinks he’s out carousing. That’s secret #1. Secret #2 is that he kind of has a thing for Casey. He doesn’t want to be killed by her brother, he doesn’t want to ruin his friendship with Casey, but there’s something there.

So what else can he do but agree when she tries to recruit him to be the guy to help her get that experience she needs? At least she’ll be safe with him, he’ll take care of her, they’re just friends so nothing will come of it, right? Well, you can see where this is going, can’t you?

Susannah Nix has written a story that is laugh-out-loud funny with college humor shenanigans, sweet and steamy, and serious and thought-provoking as we get to know Casey and Gareth better and better. A very entertaining story with excellent narration by Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels that picks up the humor, the slapstick, the droll comments, and the deep feelings perfectly. I received a free audiobook from the author via Home Cooked Books. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
