I really thought I would like this book, based on the description, but I was only able to get about 10% through it before I gave up. I try to give a lot of leeway knowing sometimes things aren't fully edited yet, but the historical "facts" don't line up quite right, and the geographical inaccuracies/errors are glaring and hard to move past for someone with a touch of OCD like me. Some examples- the main character "watched a show on Nat Geo about truffles" in 1941/42 or earlier; another he was "somewhere" in Italy while crossing the Caledon River (which is in South Africa), near the Udza Mountain Range (there is no mountain range called that anywhere, except in a glaringly inaccurate science book from 1893)- when the nearest mountain range would likely be the Drakensberg Mountain Range. Sorry, I realize the inaccuracies may well be intentional, but it's just not my cup of tea at all and I couldn't enjoy/immerse myself in this.… (altro)
