Finished Reading December 29, 2013

The edition I have says 199 pages. It's actually around 70 or less pages.

Did I, lover of Erotica and hot steam enjoy this?
Let me put it this way. This was the first & ONLY book I read in this series.

I think that pretty much answers how I felt about it.

One of my favorite things about anthologies is how different the stories are going to be inside the collection. I was, especially, excited about this one because I was curious how the authors were going to tie their stories into a particular day from the 12 days of Christmas.

One Cruel Wedding Night-KA Linde
These were new to me characters but they definitely piqued my interest. The chemistry coming from these characters was fire and I was 100% invested in watching this story evolve. After discovering that they make several appearances in this author's previous works, I will be adding them to my TBR.

Two Turtle Doves -Skye Warren
I will take any chance to read about Gabriel and his Avery. ANY chance. This was a bonus story that I was not expecting to get in their world. It offered a perfect peek into the future for these characters. Highly recommend it to anyone that has read the Endgame series.

Goner- Fiona Cole
The Voyeur series by this author is one of the hottest series that I have ever read and has some of my all-time favorite characters in it (Ian and Carina). So, color me surprised that this book was going to take me back to cameos by my favorite characters but also include some SPICY and delicious scenes. This was almost too hot for such a short story. I wanted more and was actually pretty bummed that it was this short because I wasn't done with Atlas and Amara. I hope that the author expands this story in the future.

Four Calling Birds- Nana Malone
I am on the fence with this story because I felt a little lost with the characters and who they were because they were new to me. I am sure for fans of these characters from before that they wouldn't have been lost. Lucas was a prince but also a former jewel thief so I found myself scratching my head. While this story was not for me, I still admire the author for being able to write, which I could not do in a million years.

Five Golden Rings- Claire Contreras
I struggled with this story because I couldn't connect with the characters. It felt like there were a lot of details trying to set up who the characters were or fluff, so to speak, and then it was BAM straight to an instant connection between the characters. I have to think that this was because this was just too much story to fit into the length requirement for this Christmas collection. It is a shame because the story had potential. I hope that the author decides to expand it in the future because I think that will turn this into something more.

On the Sixth Day- Nikki Sloan
The characters in this story have come from a previous series of hers. They have been on my TBR since this author's books have been on my FYP of Tik Tok/BookTok. I can see why after reading this short story because it was steamy. OH. SO. STEAMY. I will be moving it up my list asap.

Swan Song- Giana Darling
Anything that this author writes is sublime. Regardless of the sub-genre, it becomes one of my favorites because of the special gift that this author has when it comes to writing. She paints a picture. This is particularly true with the Fallen Men series. Discovering that this book was going to be part of this world made me giddy. This story made me a bit sad because not only was it just a short time in this beloved world, but because I only got a taste of Swan and Curtains. This author left me dying to know more because this was just a prequel. I am not sure when these characters will get their story told in the series but I am eager for it. The angst was already forming and I just know that when it is their time for the story to be told that it will tug at my heartstrings.

My Present this Year- Sierra Simone
I was excited for this story because since I first discovered this author with the New Camelot Trilogy, I have been hooked on her words. I wanted this story to be more because it was taboo/forbidden. The premise was enticing but it was odd. For some reason, Nick and Nora just fit into this scenario too perfectly. Don't get me wrong, their steamy time was sexy, but somehow it lacked that spark of tabooness that I have come to associate with this author.

Nine Ladies Dancing- CD Reiss
WHA? I'm scratching my head because I am so confused. I LOVE this author. In fact, she is one of my one-click authors. So, color me surprised at this story. I'm kind of at a loss because it was that far out there. The book started pretty normally, but then things switched up and I had to pause and reread it to see if things were going the direction that they seemed. They were. It went even weirder after that. I had hopes that things would make sense by the end of the story. They did, and then it didn't. Definitely, not my favorite by this author. However, this story might live on in my head for a while so, in some ways, she succeeded at leaving her mark.

Ten Dirty Demands- Laurelin Paige
Donovan... Good Lord do I love this man. He is in my top book boyfriends. There is just something about this man. Getting a chance to dive back into his life with Sabrina? SIGN ME UP. I knew, instantly, once this story started that Donovan was going to bring the sexiness as a sort of repayment for a favor, a favor mind you, that was delicious in itself because it was so very out of character for him. The demands were kinky and titillating. I was a bit sad that the tenth demand was left as a maybe. Especially, as it is so rare to see him be vulnerable, and he so was in that moment. He sincerely wanted it. I hope that the author decides to continue this in the future because I think this would be a great segway into the future for these characters. I don't feel as if their story has finished.

Gift Me- M Malone
This was a pretty cute story. I was impressed by how this author managed to create such a complete story in such a limited amount of pages. It was very Hallmark movie-ish but that was okay because the happily ever after for Deacon and Noelle (great name for a Christmas story).

Twelve Drummers- Angelina Lopez
This story was very different. This is a new to me author so I wasn't sure what to expect. It definitely had some steam but felt a little jarring at times with the transitions. I'm on the fence with the story itself. However, I appreciated the culture that was tied into this story.

All in all, an interesting collection of stories that go towards a great cause.

I started out a little excited about reading this anthology but it fizzled out after a bit. I get that it's supposed to be naughty but may have been a bit too much for me. Skye Warren, Nana Malone, and M Malone's stories were romantic and the steam factor kinda went with that but the rest were almost porn and not the classy kind. I don't mean to offend but Christmas and smut are not up my alley. I pretty much had to swipe the screen on my kindle through most of the novellas.

"There are parts of me that are selfish and inconsiderate to others - inconsiderate of her - and like the monk who fails at keeping his eyes fixed on God, I consider this my sin."

This review is of the story "Ten Dirty Demands", by Laurelin Paige.

If you have followed Laurelin's Dirty Filthy Universe, you know Donovan is the ultimate Alpha-H*le, but Sabrina is the one that finally tamed the beast. Oh, make no mistake - he's no less alpha, and as demanding as ever. And this season, in exchange for bowing to Sabrina's will, and doing something he would never do for anyone else, he has some demands of his own.

The last demand was not one I would have expected out of Donvan Kincaid. Will Sabrina give him what he wants this time, or is it a line she can't cross - at least not yet.

What a great short story, and an amazing teaser for Donovan's book next year!!

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: FINN
I survived several tours in Afghanistan before the billionaire father I barely remember changes everything. Now I have it all: money, cars and most importantly, power. Power to track down the woman who left me for a richer man.

She’s struggling to save her business, and I’m in the perfect position to save it.

For a price.

MARISSA
I dragged myself out of poverty with my cleaning business Maid-4-U. So I’m thrilled when we get a much needed contract for a luxury penthouse.

Until I see who owns it.

Money can’t buy happiness but it can buy damn near everything else. Including the one thing I’m worried he really wants.

Revenge.

Short prequel

This is just a short prequel/history for Deep, just enough to wet your whistle and get you ready for the full book to come.

These authors are new to me. That's not going to last for long. They wrote a good story that sucked me right in and then made me fall in love with the characters.

Rafe spent years in deep cover for the FBI and now he's out of it. He works at his brother-in-law's security business and sometimes helps out damsels in distress. However, the FBI keeps trying to pull him in for more information and to do more things for them. He wants to have nothing to do with them and would prefer to leave the past his handler wants to dig up well into the past.

Diana has spent years to trying to figure out who killed her father and why. It happened right in front of her and she was spared even though she expected the masked gunman to kill her too. Finally, after 10 years, she has found his killer, and now she's going to make him pay. Or is she?

This book is a cliffhanger. That's not a spoiler since it says it clearly in the description. I went into reading the book knowing that was going to happen, so I girded my loins so that I could read it. It was a great book and I can't wait for the second part.

I read the little prequel too, which was nice because it helped me learn more about Rafe and his motivations and helped me enjoy this book even more. This series is going to be one that is on my reread list.

If you haven't read Deep, put this one down and read it first. Deeper is not a standalone, and without reading Deep, you will be totally lost.

After she realizes that she's falling for him, Diana knows that she has to do something. When the perfect chance comes up for her to search for what she's looking for, she takes it. Then she discovers things that she didn't know and things that totally changed her viewpoint on her whole life. She then runs away and hides from Rafe.

Rafe wakes up to find Diana gone. He tried to track her down, but she got out ahead of him and holed up where he couldn't find her. He's desperate to find her for many reasons, and angry with himself for trusting someone because he knew better because of his history. That doesn't stop him from needing her though.

I found the story to be a good conclusion to the series. However, I did like the first book better than this one. I can't exactly put my finger on why, but there it is. That doesn't mean that I don't like this one. I do. I needed to have it and it answered questions and pulled me up off the cliff. There's just something... I think now that I have the two books together they will be a definite reread.

I read this for the Romance Sparks Joy readalong, but I don't think I'm going to participate in any more discussion on it. I liked the set-up and the first chapter, but after that it quickly blends into a mix of idealizing /putting another on a pedestal, intense feelings I don't understand yet (50%), making much about virginity, relief of the little sexual tension built...and I think I was going into a portion of the book where the characters were afraid to communicate.

I just don't have it in me.

Curse you Nana Malone!!! How could you do this to me. I was speeding through this book, loving every minute and then I got to the cliff-hanger ending – ARGH!!! They say “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” but when Oskar picked up a young Hailey and they spent an amazing weekend everything changed for both of them. She was heartbroken when she woke up alone after an amazing drunken, sex filled time.
Three years later, Hailey is in danger and her father decides to hire a security firm to keep her safe. Guess who is the bodyguard assigned to her case – Oskar. Of course they recognize each other and so begins the magnetic pull of attraction. Blake Security is investigating the threat but can they find it before Hailey is attacked again? Only book 2 will tell!.
I received an advance copy of this book.

Nana Malone has a way of writing Big, Bad Bodyguards so that no matter how fierce they seem you know there is a warm loving heart inside. Oskar is no exception. He might be a bad ass with his friends/ co-workers but when he is around his wife he is a sweetheart.
Unlike most of the women in Nana's books, Hailey doesn't have a bodyguard/military background. She seems the opposite, a hardworking business woman who invents perfumes for a living but when the danger crops up she can be as strong as the rest.
This is the 2nd book in this duet so we finally have all the loose ends tied up and are left with a very Happily Ever After.
I received a free advanced copy of this book.

ARC BOOK REVIEW
RELEASE DATE-29/1/18
So Deeper is the second part of The riveting "Deep duet" by M. Malone and Nana Malone.
And after where we left this I have been gagging to get stuck right back into this enthralling story and I just have to say Deeper certainly didn't disappoint, it just keeps getting better and better.
So we start back off here exactly where Deep left us with Diana on the move along with that ever so revealing flash-drive and with Rafe not far behind in hot pursuit.
and Instead of being in self-preservation mode after realising Dianna has lied to and used him all he can think about is her safety.
Which is just so heart-stirringly hot.
Rafe just comes across as such an absolute keeper, I actually loved him even more here, there's just something so very sexy about a man who is willing to lay his feeling so bare, leaving himself completely vulnerable and open.
I must admit though, I am bloody glad he has finally woken up and smelt the coffee and realised Dianna is not quite what she actually appears maybe now they can start to move forward in regards to trusting each other.
I hope also that Diana realises just how lucky she is that Rafe was prepared to give her a second chance.
So I would love to say that the evasions of truth are so over, but this is Dianna that we are talking about and although Rafe seems more than willing to lay all his cards on the table now, Dianna herself doesn't seem quite able yet to break the habits of a lifetime and still seems to be dragging her feet slightly in regards to full disclosure.
So right from the start here, We are thrust back into the action and this time around we also get to spend a lot more time with Rafe's extended family, which was fabulous.
We also get to see a much softer side to Dianna, which really helped warm me up to her.
I think I got a bit more of an insight here into what actually makes her tick and why she can come across as a bit cold at times.

I am also very pleased to say that the disconnect I was feeling in "Deep" is no more, I can now feel Dianna and Rafe's connection, so all's good on that front too.
what else, well we also get to experience a lot much action in this instalment.
and also whereas in "Deep" I would say there was more sex, less talk, in "Deeper it was, in my opinion, the opposite which really helped me to get more of a feel for our pair's dynamics.
So I think that about wraps this one up. I found Deeper a great read that kept my interest right till its satisfying conclusion and I would be happy to recommend this well-written duet.

I received an arc of Deeper of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

So never having read anything by this author before, I was going in totally blind.
So First impressions from me, well yep they be good folks, this is definitely an author I can gel with.
A very easy writing style that initially pulled me right in and made me want to delve deeper into the whole story.
I didn't realise originally that this was part of an on-going series, but I found that really didn't matter at all.
The backstory was cleverly woven in. without the need to have read previous material to get up to speed.
So this can totally be read as a stand-alone Folks.
And I will definitely be checking out some more of this author's superb offerings when I get a spare hour or two.
Now down the nitty gritty what's this about?
Well, this is basically Dianna's and Rafe's tale.
Rafe all-round bad-ass, former Orus operative, now semi-retired and working for his brother in law at Blake security.
So trying to lead a semi-normal life and put his government sanctioned killing day's behind him.
And then enter Dianna, she has made it her life's mission to bring to justice her fathers killer.
The killer she looked straight in the eyes and also lived to tell the tale.
That killer that is Rafe!!
So, This is one of those stories that the pages just keep turning by themselves and you can't help but be drawn right in.
Deep is fabulously well written and I finished this in record time.
So, Why not a higher rating then?
Well, I am not a big fan of the revenge trope and it did seem to drag on just a tad too long for my liking.
I also I wasn't that fond of Dianna either, She came across as extremely conniving and quite frankly sneaky little bitch.
I find it absolutely astounding that she had no suspicions at all of what her family was involved in, please, surely nobody could be quite that gullible and naive.
And where did she actually think she was going to find this big proof that she was looking for and while I'm at it if you're going to roofy someone's drink, Dianna.
Prob's best not to leave residue on the rim, totally spy school rule number one I would think DUH!!!

So yeh Dianna, really not a fan here people.
But Rafe, well tickle my funny bone, he was one super hot man-toy.
Totally fan-Girling here.
I really hated the way Dianna played him, using her feminine wiles to ensnare him in her web.
but I still felt there was a missing connection here slightly, I just wasn't quite feeling it and I'm not sure exactly why.
But that aside I'm still fairly optimistic for take two, hopefully, everybody will be more aware of the score and I'm extremely intrigued to see where this is going to head next.
So, in conclusion, I found Deep to be a good solid read with a few teensy teething issues those aside I'm still looking forward very much to the next read.
Thank You to the Author for proving me with an ARC of Deep of which I have reviewed voluntary.

Still Brazen (Brazen Duet #2) by M. Malone, Nana Malone

Still Brazen proves there is a such thing as lethal charm. Oskar and the gang are always one step ahead when it comes to danger, but totally clueless about falling in love. Hailey and Oskar are a temptation that is not to be missed. Malone squared know how to keep readers on the edge of their seats, while stealing away with their hearts. Nana and Minx Malone are a dangerous combination and I'm loving every second.

Talk about risky business. This story radiates so much heat that it feels like standing in front of a raging fireball. Olivia is not what I expected. She found an interesting but successful way to better her circumstances. She owns a strip club (partially anyway). She can hold her own with the big boys like larger than life King. But underneath that edgy personality lies a good girl at heart seeking a better life for herself. King is hard to take on a good day. Pompous, driven and used to getting his own way. Did I like him? Not so much, but the magnetic pull he gave off was hard to look away from. Over the top, extreme sensual stories are what M. Malone is good at and she stepped it up a notch with Bad King.
