I am a big baseball fan so this book was thoroughly entertaining with pictures and the history various ballparks from Ebbet's field to Camden Yards.

Any baseball fan would love it for the pictures alone.

This book has random facts/mysteries from many historical figures. It is educational and may inspire children to perform their own research on the topics.

As a history lover, this was a fun read!! Many of the events, places, and people, were interesting to read about, especially reading about lesser known people in history.

I read to 15% then DNF'd it.

Honestly I was just bored. So many raved about this book, so I gave it a go, not my normal genre. But the slow start just made it hard to push through. It's an okay plot, and the characters are all just okay. Nothing to keep me invested in what's happening.

Entertaining and amusing, if written in a somewhat "conversational" or "internet" style. Maybe "breathless" would be a better descriptor. Lots of debunking that's not necessary. I'm a conspiracy buff, and there were actually some new ones in here that I'd not heard about, so that's a plus. On the downside, a lot of the information is repeated, sometimes twice.
In short, a worthwhile read, but not by a lot.½

Very poor. It reads as if a non-native english speaker wrote it. It's a simple compendium of common conspiracies that have far less depth than their corresponding Wiki pages online.

If someone is in grade school and writing a paper on conspiracy theories, then this may be appropriate for them. However, if someone is looking for in-depth knowledge regarding the referenced conspiracies - look elsewhere.

Every time I leave on another trip, says David, blind friends and acquaintances pepper me with questions: How do you get around countries with no public transportation? How do you deal with different types and sizes of currency? How do you travel overseas with a guide dog? Who describes the unique sights to you? In Sites Unseen, David covers the territory. She helps you decide where to go, when to go, how best to get there, how to find accessible travel websites and social networks; gives tips for navigating busy airports, sleeping overnight on trains, enjoying today's more comfortable bus lines, selecting a theme-based cruise, using accessible GPS, and more.

Covering all 50 states, the book highlights roughly 300 attractions and events that are as the title of the book says “strange, unusual, and just plain fun.” Each chapter covers a different region of the country with each page dedicated to a destination—sometimes two if a location has a lot to show—beginning in one state of the region and then systematically going through each state until getting to the other end of the region. Whether looking for interesting destinations to sightsee or stay at, or just taking a trip through reading and using your own imagination, this is a nice resource to reference.

The Jeopardy connection is pretty tenuous, but this is a fun diversion from monotony nonetheless.

The book contains crossword puzzles and word searches, which are generally like your typical word puzzles with one exception -- each puzzle also has five Jeopardy-style clues that you need to answer in order to complete the puzzle. The five clues will all be based on one high-level category, such as state capitals or science.

For word searches, this just means extra words to find. The other words in the list to find will also be related to the high-level category.

For crosswords, there will be several numbered slots without a traditional crossword clue, so you will need to both figure out the Jeopardy clues and then determine where they fit in the puzzle. The other clues are just typical crossword clues, not related to the high-level category.

All around, a fun amuse-bouche to keep your mind active but not overly taxed.½

Haunted America is a hard to read book that is written in so many directions. It details haunted places or supposedly haunted places. Many of these places are either written in a dry matter of fact tone that states the facts, while others tell stories of the places yet not what actually makes them haunted. It builds up some interesting points, yet just ends without finishing it. The only part that keeps this from being a 1 star review is that some of the stories are interesting, they just need more.

This is an engaging book of puzzles based in some fashion or another on Edgar Allan Poe. There is one crossword based on assorted things about Poe, and there are MANY cryptograms and word searches.

The cryptograms are typically quotes by Poe regarding his writing process and other thoughts. A few are quotes by other authors about Poe. I dinged the book the half star because the first cryptogram is nearly impossible to crack as the encryption doesn't follow a set pattern. The rest are fairly easy to decode but take a while to do so, especially with longer passages as opposed to a one- or two-sentence quote. If you looking to keep yourself occupied for a long time, this is definitely a good thing.

The word searches present one of Poe's poems or short stories on one side of the page spread with certain words or phrases in all caps. Those words are then what you need to look for in the word search on the other side. Some works are longer than others so they take up several to many pages.

All in all, this is an entertaining book to keep your mind busy for a while -- whether that's a puzzle a day as you unwind each night or the whole book for a long, relaxing vacation or sick days stuck at home.½

This book was interesting. A lot of the facts I knew already and most of them are totally unnecessary to know. Throughout the book, it talks about a number of subjects, from politics all the way to pop culture. While it is quite informative, it does live up to the title by being full of info that is quite useless.

Interesting, off- beat trivia. Fun to pick up and read in small sections. My daughters favorite section is the list of phobias.

I love to bake and so I love this book. It includes new recipes that I've never seen before as well as standard that have been around for years (think of those recipes that are printed in ads or on the back of chocolate chip packages). Unfortunately not every recipe has an illustrated photo. I especially enjoyed the adorable cookies for kids section. And the book justified the 5$ I spent on it (on sale at Borders) the very first time I made the lemon bars.

Wonderful bible for learning the why of not being able to bake this cookie. This book saved my baking skills, giving me the reason why using baking soda in a recipe and using baking powder in another. Wow...
