A funny little ditty
about a hungry kitty
who will hunt without pity,
though the catch is . . . bitty.

Cute and amusing, especially in the final pages as the hunt takes a new -- and more successful -- tack.

2 mice flex their imagination and creativity finding all the uses they can for 6 popsicle sticks. More a craft book than a story.

Part of the long vowel bright owl books series by Molly Coxe, comes the story about goat who “needs a home in the snow”. He visits his friends mole, snowshoe hare, and polar bear and asks them if he can come in. It isn’t until the last animal suggests for goat to go home that the truth comes out. Goat does not have a home. His friends helped him build one and he invites them for oats.
Illustrations are pictures of settings with animals made out of fabric and a background that appears to be real snow and pine trees. They cover the complete page. Text is large, only a few short sentences, and repeated which makes it an excellent book for a beginning reader.
There is a note to parents from the publishing company explaining why reading phonics books are important for beginning readers and refers the adult to the three open ended questions, they call them story starters, at the end of the book. This is a series that should be in every library. The reviewer had a hardback copy.

Bunny & the Beast is very similar to the fairytale Beauty & the Beast. However, that author add a her own twist to the story. Some details throughout the story are completely different from the original fairytale Beauty & the Beast, however, the different story is more interesting. The small details the author adds in the story intrigues the readers more than the stereotypical Beauty & the Beast fairytale. The illustration are also bright, beautiful, and eye catching. The only issue I have with the story is how lengthy the text are. Overall, the story was amazing and a good read.

"Bunny and the Beast" was very similar to "Beauty and the Beast." The story lines were identical. A father of bunnies, who was a merchant was caught stealing a flower from the beast's garden. The beast demanded him to bring his daughter to him in trade of him. One of the daughters agreed to go. The beast liked Bunny more and more and decided he wanted to marry her. Every day she would say no. One day, she wanted to go see her father, but she had to promise the beast of her return or else he would die. When she came back, she thought it was too late and the beast had died. When she proclaimed her love for him, he came back to life and they married. They lived happily ever after. This plot followed the tradition plot of happily ever after's as far as starting without love and ending with it. The illustrations of this book took up the whole page, on every single page and showed pictures of the events taking place of the story. They showed full details of the city, country and forest.

Very simple guided reading book, and it is perfect for introducing early readers to sequencing, and how a story evolves.

I thought this was a good book for a few reasons. First of all, I liked the easy and repetitive language of the book. The book is about mice who have 6 Popsicle sticks and form different things with them. The language uses a repetitive theme that makes it easy for young children to read along with an adult who may be reading the book to them. For example, some of the text that is spread out along a few pages reads, "6 sticks.", "6 sticks.", "6 sticks make 6 flags.", "6 sticks make 6 whiskers.". Each sentence starts with the words, "6 sticks" so it would be easy for a young children to see the pattern and read along. The next thing that I really like are the illustrations. The illustrations depict 2 mice building/creating objects with 6 Popsicle sticks. They look as if they are illustrated using construction paper and this creates an arts and crafts sort of them that I think children would really enjoy. The final thing that I like about this book is how the message king of centers around an informational lesson. The book uses the 6 sticks to create different things and illustrations why certain things can only use a certain amount of sticks. For example, the book says, "6 sticks make 3 T's." then then illustrates how only 6 sticks can make 3 T's. Another example would be, "6 sticks make 3 pairs of skies." (with an illustration of 3 skies being made). Overall, this is a cute fun book for young children first getting introduced to reading.

Bunny and the beast, a fairy-tale very similar to the one we all know and love as- “Beauty and the Beast”. Although this fairytale is similar, the author adds his own twists which almost makes you forget all about the Beauty and the Beast we are most familiar with. The main character of the story is “Bunny” who we can easily assume is the “Beauty” in the story. The author also adds in two sisters, Thistle and Thorna who are spoiled and may be easily compared to the step sisters in the popular fairytale “Cinderella”. Bunny is sent away to live in the Beast’s castle and she is surrounded by the finer things which she isn’t used to. Eventually Bunny falls in love with the Beast and he ends up turning into a nice handsome Bunny, just like in the familiar story the Beast turns into a handsome Prince. I enjoyed that the author swayed from the normal Beauty and the Beast story and made the character’s bunnies, and the beast a Bullterrier dog instead of an actual monstrous beast. A normal princess tale may not gain the interests of all young readers, especially young males. Being that Bunny & the Beast has its own twists with beautiful illustrations that capture’s the eye with each page , I feel as if young readers will not be disappointed.½

Hot Dog by Molly Coxe is a great book for children just beginning to read. It is a very easy read with pictures that take up the entire page. It is about a dog that is very hot in the middle of the summer and is trying to find a way to cool off. He sees different animals and people and how they are staying cool and tries to join in. For example, he sees the pigs are cool rolling in the mud so he jumps in the mud with them and gets squished by the pigs, so he leaves. He also sees sheep getting shaved so he jumps in to get shaved and the herder shoos him away. Finally he sees the girl in the pool staying cool and she invites him to get in and swim and he’s finally cool. I think the illustrations are great. Throughout the book they show the dog panting with his tongue out to show how hot he is and then change to show him excited when he sees a way to stay cool, then back to an upset look when he realizes that that plan isn’t going to work in keeping him cool. It also shows all the other animals very content and smug with how cool they are. It was very simple writing throughout the book and the way they portrayed other animals shooing the dog or kicking the dog out of “their areas” was somewhat realistic to an extent. Overall I think this was a great book and could help children with their reading and also understanding how different animals keep cool when it’s hot outside and to understand how to help keep your pets and animals cool.

I really enjoyed this book because of its fun pictures and silly story, as well as the rhyming element/theme of the book. This book is great for beginning readers Pre-k through K. It is a "Ready to Read"- Step 1 reader that emphasizes the use of small 3 or 4 word sentences through rhyming. The main character of the book, the dog, is friendly, familiar, and engaging to children. The language used is simple and repetitive to enhance recognition of common words used throughout the book. I really enjoyed reading how the dog tried to cool himself down throughout the book and then at the end how he finally did. It would be a great, silly, but useful, read for younger students. The big idea/message of the story is primarily for entertainment, but also to encourage beginning readers and to emphasize rhyming- which engages and interests children at this age in their development.

Bunny and the Beast has a twist on characters compared to the old fairy tale version of Beauty and the Beast. This story uses rabbits and a dog as the main characters. Bunny’s father was a rich rabbit merchant and her two sisters were spoiled rabbits. Bunny was the merchants’ nicest daughter, she did not ask for much and she was easy going. One day the merchant wandered off into the forest very upset because his ship was wrecked, the cargo was lost, and he had to somehow pay the crew. As the merchant was wandering he followed his nose to a castle where there was an inviting smell. The merchant went in ate a grand supper and slept in a fine bed in the castle. The next morning, he snipped a rose from the garden on his way out for Bunny. Suddenly, the Beast appeared and told the merchant that he now has to trade one of his daughters for the rose. Arriving home, the merchant tells his daughters of his promise to send one of them to the Beast, they all reject this news. All except Bunny, she agreed to go and save her family from the Beast’s wrath. Day after day, the Beast showered Bunny with gifts, and every night he asked her to marry him. Bunny rejected his proposal every time, and left for a week to visit her father. Upon arrival back at the castle Bunny found the Beast dying in the garden and told him to please have her as his wife. Those words broke the spell that was on the Beast and he turned into a handsome bunny. The two lived happily ever.
The images played a significant role in the books setting. The paintings were of old 1600 style, which were very beautiful. The words were small and overpowered by the pictures. This story has the message that beauty is not on the outside. A person can be beautiful and have a nasty attitude or be an evil person. Rather, beauty is deeper it is what lies within a person’s true heart. I would read this book with my class teaching a lesson that you must love people for who they are not by their appearance.

Bunny and the Beast is a beautiful retelling on Beauty and the Beast with its incorporation of animals. The illustrations are eye-catching and distract readers from the story's length. I would introduce this story to my students to show them various story retellings of Beauty and the Beast.

Beautiful illustrations in this particular book, and a interesting story line. My daughter, nephew, and I enjoyed reading and looking at the pictures. This book has a different plot but the same theme as beauty and the beast.

The Bunny and the Beast is an interpretation of Beauty and the Beast. Bunny unselfishly gives herself to the Beast in order to save her family. However, as Bunny spends many days with the Beast, she begins to fall in love with him. Every night, the Beast asks Bunny to marry him and she always says no. After the Beast allows Bunny to go visit her father, Bunny returns to find the Beast dying. Bunny is stricken with greif, and tells the Beast that she would like to be his wife. The Beast is suddenly healed and turned into a handsome rabbit prince! Bunny and the Beast live happily ever after.

Bunny and the Beast is a spin on the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. The father who was king of the land was asked to leave along with his wife and three girls. They had to live with nothing. Two of his girls were very high maintenance, while the other daughter was very self saficended. This story was very cute and I loved the spin on it.

The incorporation of sight words in this text makes reading fun and enjoyable for emergent readers. The illustrations also are detailed, which helps the reader make inferences about what the words are going to be. I found this book very effective when working with a kindergarten student. This was the very first book she was able to read without much assistance. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a short text to help children that are just starting out build confidence and independence.

This book is quite long so it would be better suited for the older elementary grades. This story discusses sacrifices and love that a bunny goes through when she is pawned off to a beast. The beast ended up be a bunny who had an evil spell put on him because he used to be a bad person. The bunny girl falls in love with the beast, and he turns back into a bunny.

This retelling is very similar to the tradition tale of "Beauty and the Beast." The only difference is that the characters are bunny rabbits in this edition. This book has beautiful illustrations.
