Part of the long vowel bright owl books series by Molly Coxe, comes the story about goat who “needs a home in the snow”. He visits his friends mole, snowshoe hare, and polar bear and asks them if he can come in. It isn’t until the last animal suggests for goat to go home that the truth comes out. Goat does not have a home. His friends helped him build one and he invites them for oats.
Illustrations are pictures of settings with animals made out of fabric and a background that appears to be real snow and pine trees. They cover the complete page. Text is large, only a few short sentences, and repeated which makes it an excellent book for a beginning reader.
There is a note to parents from the publishing company explaining why reading phonics books are important for beginning readers and refers the adult to the three open ended questions, they call them story starters, at the end of the book. This is a series that should be in every library. The reviewer had a hardback copy.
