The tale of a gentle giant with hopes of gaining wisdom from an old man in the village. The old man is visited by other people in the village, in hopes that they'd receive his wisdom. The old man only tells Fin his secret and where to retrieve it. Fin followed the old man's direction to catch a red fish cook him and eat him. When Fin caught the fish instead of eating the fish Fin spares his life and is granted the gift of wisdom . The picture books discusses the legendary figure Finn McCool of Irish folklore and legend. Finn is known as the greatest warrior ever known, and has remarkable strength. He is strong, but not smart, so he goes to an old man to learn the secret of wisdom. When he saves a salmon, Finn learns that the secret of wisdom is to respect all forms of life. Finn McCool is a friendly giant that lives in Ireland. He always helps everyone around him and is loved by his country. Unfortunately he is not very smart. One day Finn decides to find the wise old man that held the secret of wisdom. He went to the old mans house and asked him to tell him the secret of his wisdom. The old man told him to go to the river, catch a red salmon and than eat the salmon. He would get his wisdom from the red salmon. Finn did as he was told. He caught the red salmon but could not bring himself to eat the fish. He decided to let the fish live.
