FRANK mentioned ( ) Picked up at a thrift shop for $0.50. Took a bit to get in to it, but thoroughly enjoyed the letters. Especially enjoyed the earlier letters about the settling of Canada. As an American recently moved to Canada my knowledge of Canadian history could use some strengthening. Have enjoyed some Pierre Berton. A collection of both official and personal letters covering the period from 1800 to 1999. Letters are written by people from all walks of life, including both famous and ordinary people; written during times of great historical importance, and also when life was just humming along. Includes letters to and from soldiers during world wars, and others that shed light on important characters and events from two hundred years of our history. This collection does not focus just on politicians, but also includes settlers, figures from business, religion, professions, sports and the arts, and many "unknowns" who reveal interesting information about the times in which they lived. A fantastic resource. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"In Canada: A Portrait in Letters, renowned biographer and popular historian Charlotte Gray weaves together more than two hundred letters written by Canadians, both famous and ordinary. These priceless documents are accompanied by a visual narrative of one hundred illustrations, including maps, sketches, and photographs. Adding her own notes and commentary, Gray creates a captivating portrait of a country, rich in diversity and hope, once a backwater of the British Empire, that has matured to take its place among the world's cultural and economic leaders."--Pub. desc.
