An excellent collection of women poets of Japan, spanning from the 7th to the 20th centuries. Princesses, courtesans, bisexuals, lesbians, and nuns are all represented. Each poet's work is accompanied by a lovely calligraph of their name.
My only quibble is that the bios are in the back, causing much flipping back and forth, since there are only one or two poems per author.
I hope in the intervening years more work by these women has been translated. ( )
