This was one of those great finds....a book you pick up at a flea market, that turns out to be a warm wonderful read. About a family living in the early 1900's in the southwest, the mother runs a boarding house. Written by the oldest daughter who tells the story beautifully, with a great deal of humor....If you likes Cheaper by the Dozen, you will like this. This is a memoir of a woman who grew up in the pioneer days of Arizona. It tells of her mother's indomitable spirit, her father's dreams and how her mother kept them fed and clothed in spite of the father's dreams. It mostly revolves around the characters who came to reside at their boarding house. Delightful. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

My 2017 self is surprised at the behaviors of this early 20th century family. Race, gender, and class, while still current issues, are approached differently. The sterilization of a woman without her consent is shocking. ( )
