This book didn't appeal to me personally on many levels. I understand this book is supposed to be humorous and I do admit I did find a few parts entertaining and amusing for sure.
However, from the onset I felt like this book was just shouting out insults which just came across as awkward at times. Some of the sarcasm or jokes seemed forced rather than natural comical banter, though many points were hilarious.
Few topics I found tended to go on a bit, however the author does have great knowledge about this vastly cultured city
I did find the recap at the end unnecessary.

This book snubs everything that makes Paris Paris. A deterrent for anyone who hasn't been but would have wanted to go......exactly what the title implies hence a great success!

Although as entertaining as it was, maybe I am not into sardonic humour therefore unfortunately found it quite exhausting to read, but I'm sure this would appeal to many. ( )

This short and fun read did contain some information and had humor that was funny. Not all the time but there were moments of humor.

The best part of this book was that I had a sense of genuine affection and interest in the subject. It made it less competitive than a previous title, and much more readable.

I can't say that the book was memorable or that I will consult it when I go overseas, it was a least a nice diversion. ( )

This book is a sardonic love letter to Paris. By pointing out many of Paris's tourist traps, Cranford highlights many of Paris's glories. It is written in ten short essays, all focused on a specific cultural phenomenon (such as food, museums, fashion, etc), which show a deep knowledge of Paris and its environs. The individual essays are quick reads and each is discrete. This means the book can be read over a long period in spare minutes. It's a fun book for the armchair traveller who likes a bit of humour and sarcasm with their adventures. ( )

This book is similar in style to Please Do NOT Go to London book. It's cute and snarky with a lot of clichés and repetition. However, I found more of the snarkiness was based on Paris being different from the United States and how that is strange and bad. For example, the author attacked the French language and its idioms; for some reason, the US English "raining cats and dogs" is superior to and makes more sense than the French "raining ropes" when it's pouring out. This bothered me; I know the book is intended to poke fun at Paris, but I didn't like the attack being based on it being different than American culture, if that makes sense. Cute book, fast read, but not my favorite.

Another tongue in cheek comedy roast and this time the victim is Paris. I have to admit I found some of this very funny having spent some time there over the years and I did learn one or two new things about the City Of Light I hadn’t known before. Overall it just goes to show how Paris definitely knows how to fleece tourists in the name of style and the country’s economy. Although a very beautiful city it’s not known for being particularly welcoming or warm to visitors. A fun read which reminds me that the Paris visitor should beware! ( )
