Ebenezer Scrooge was a mouse obsessed with gold and money and did not care for others. As he counts his money on Christmas Eve, he is visited by the spirit of his old business partner, Jacob Marley. Marley tells him that he will be visited by three ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. As Scrooge is visited by these ghosts, he realizes his mistakes and ultimately vows to change his ways.
REVIEW
This is a great spin to a classic tale. A Christmas Carol has always been a staple Christmas story in my home. I love that Mercer Mayer decided to take the story and make it his own with interesting and fun illustrations. The story tackles the deeper meaning of the Christmas season rather than focusing on the trademarks of the season, like Santa and reindeer. It teaches students that Christmas is about giving to others and being selfless in your actions. This can be seen when Ebenezer purchases the prize turkey for Tiny Tim and his family and tells Bob that he is going to help him and his family with their affairs. It also teaches students that their are consequences to your actions, especially if they are negative and selfishly done. ( )
