Twisted Lies is book two in Patchen’s Hidden Truth series, and is every bit as wonderful as the first. Both books pull at the reader’s heart strings because young children are at risk. In Twisted Lies four-year-old Ana, adopted daughter of Marisa Vega, has been kidnapped, and the kidnapping is linked to the life Marisa led before fleeing to Mexico. Also linked to that life is former New York Times reporter, Nate Boyle. Can Marisa count on him to help her find her daughter before it is too late? Will Nate be able to work past the PTSD caused by the role he played in protecting another mother and child?
While being drawn into Ana and Marisa’s story, the reader will also be pleased to encounter lead characters from book one in the Hidden Truth series, Convenient Lies. Brady, Rae and Sam are on hand to help find Ana and to help bring her kidnapper to justice. By the end of the book, the reader will be looking forward to reading book three, Generous Lies, the story of Sam (Samantha) and retired FBI agent, Garrison Kopp.
Once again, I was impressed by Robin Patchen’s skill in writing dialogue, keeping it fresh and real. The story is well-paced, and clues to the mystery’s solution well-delivered. I really appreciate Robin’s providing this book in exchange for my honest review, and like other readers, I am excited about reading book three. ( )

Robin Patchen continues her characters’ stories with the book, Twisted Lies that focuses on Nate who we met in book one, Convenient Lies. From what Nate experiences in the first tale, we now find him packing up to leave New York and his job to return to the small town where he grew up. While he has physically healed from his horrible experience, PTSD is making his life hard. On top of that, Nate believes he is not a hero or much of a man, but a coward. While many tell him that those beliefs are lies, Nate just cannot seem to break through and understand how others see him.
While packing to leave, he becomes entangled in a way he never wants to become ever again! Now, Leslie wants him to help her locate her sister, Marissa, who he helped run from threatening danger that was dogging her steps as well as the authorities who couldn’t or wouldn’t believe her to be innocent.
What happens when the sisters meet and the mystery of who took the company’s money brings danger into Nate’s world again. However, it also brings up the romantic feelings he has always carried in his heart for Marissa. The race to locate who really stole the money from the company forces Marissa to risk helping her sister who is said to have been threatened if she doesn’t locate and return it. Once again Nate must decide whether to be drawn into a world of murder, mystery, intrigue and extreme danger or walk away.
The friends of Nate’s we meet in the first book congregate around him and Marissa to help keep them safe and figure out the clues in the hopes of locating the real thief. It was really awesome to see the team of friends come around to help and support Marissa despite the threat of danger. They welcome her, care for her and share their stories in hopes that Marissa can bear up under the multitude of threats, loss and grief that seem to constantly plague her life.
I think the author does an absolutely outstanding job of writing a story that will keep people reading plus wanting more books from Robin in the future. I, for one, cannot wait to see what comes next out of her imagination which she shares through her gift of storytelling. So, before the next book is out, you best get caught up in the action from the first two books!
