This book is very short but at the end it talks about what Vida Frida did and her life. I think that this book would even be great for a Spanish class it has both English and Spanish. This book really just goes through talking about how she is empowered by many to create love and live her life. This book was a story about Frida Khalo. This book didn't have a super strong plot/storyline/educational content. The pictures creeped me out, but maybe that's just me and my dissonance with the illustration type. I wouldn't have this in my classroom because I didn't like it, but the age group it was created for would likely be Kinder-1st grade. I did appreciate how the Spanish and English were alongside each other in the book, and I loved the author's note about Frida at the end. This book contained such beautiful art and ideas in it! I feel also that it was very philosophical for children. What does it mean to live? What are things that we all do, despite differences in race, ethnicity, and abilities? We all think, create, play, and so much more, which is a wonderful point to bring up during conversations of diversity in early childhood. Viva Frida is a dreamy picture book of/on/about Frida Kahlo. It's not really a biography as much as it is a book celebrating Frida, her aesthetic and imagination. It's written by Yuyi Morales, who has created many beautiful latine picture books, and the illustrations are actually pictures taken by Tim O'Meara of Yuyi's beautifully styled marionette puppets of Frida, Fulang Chang (Frida's monkey), the iconic Frida deer, etc. There are a few traditional illustrations for the dream aspects which are by Yuyi. This was a lovely, dreamy celebration of Frida and I enjoyed it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
