Pretty good presentation of the mystery and its solution. Much different from the TV episode less dramatic more gritty. (

Phryne is back and on track. An absolute classic Phryne story with Miss Fisher and her assembled family all sparkling, sizzling & seething as they uncover dark secrets in the city of 1920s Melbourne.

Greenwood's writing is full of lovely moments of kindness and gratitude in the Phryne household and I loved every word of this latest chapter in a much-loved series. (

In 1929 Melbourne young females from differing backgrounds are going missing so Polly Kettle, trainee reporter, decides to investigate. But this is just the start of the problem. So Phryne Fisher investigates with the help of her increasing minions when Polly goes missing.
This is well-written interesting mystery with a group of well-rounded characters. Of the several books of the series that I have read this was the most enjoyable.

Women all over Melbourne seem to be going missing: some won’t be noticed, but others are concerning, including some little girls, a trio of very pregnant (and unmarried) young women who have fled from a punishing Church-run “laying in” home - and a very naive but somewhat obnoxious young woman who intends to become a famous journalist by chasing down disreputable stories…. Once again, the Hon. Phryne Fisher has her work cut out for her, but at least she has her trusty companion Dot and now three “minions” in her daughters Jane and Ruth and the young rascal Tinker, who has come to live with the family. And when she is overwhelmed by her own outrage, Lin Chong is there to soothe and steady her. With this novel in the series, I again am enjoying the mix of semi-cozy mystery and serious social problems and the damage they do, especially to women. Phryne is definitely a detective apart, and we love her just that way - recommended! (
