Fresh adaptation, told clearly, if a bit over-simplified. I'm not a huge fan of the illustrations though as I'd like the characters to be more individual and to have more clear expressions. I'd say, pick it up at the library if you get stacks of books to share with your children every time you go - otherwise seek out a better version of the Mother Holle tale.
This board book describes what little sisters can be, ranging from sticky to cuddly to bitey to your best friend. It would be most appropriate for ages 2 to 4 as the amount of text is enough to tell the story, but not so much that toddlers would become bored and they will also enjoy the images of other kids and babies. The adorable, full color illustrations feature various pairs of siblings or images of a little sister in each of the situations mentioned. This book would be a perfect way to introduce the idea of having a little sister to a toddler or to convince a reluctant big sibling that having a baby sister can be fun. This book is filled with pictures of loads and loads of kids of all races and nations with similarly assorted teachers going through their kindergarten day. There isn't much text, just enough to illuminate the illustrations but there are so many stories that parent/child can tell each other from the pictures. This is the sort of book that encourages a child's imagination to expand from their everyday experiences. A lovely gift book for any under 5 year old.
