Longish review of Stannard's bio of Muriel Spark published in Commonweal back in May (Spark was a convert to Catholicism, and the review touches on that):

My husband just completed The Finishing School, which I think is one of Spark's best, and her last novel. He found the people utterly contemptible and horrible (I think that was the point, Dear).

Anyone notice any similarities with Spark's view of humanity and Patricia Highsmith's? Or is that stretching it?

It seems to me that the diabolical Chris in "The Finishing School" has not a little in common with Tom Ripley.
