Have any LTers submitted a book to Project Gutenberg?

(Edited because I tend to hit the submit button without proofreading.)

Yes; I have credit on about 300 books for PG. I've started listing them under the user prosfilaes-gutenberg here at LT, but that always reminds me that there's something I'm supposed to be doing for PG.

You mean submitted a book to Project Gutenberg or catalog a book from Project Gutenberg on LT?

I mean submit a book so it can be added to Project Gutenberg's collection. I asked just in case I ever happen to own the only known copy of a book.

(I'm joking.)

(Mostly.)

(I think.)

How exactly would you go about submitting a book? Do you have to type in the contents to a file? Would about pictures?

(Seriously)

(Mostly)

(I hope)

;-)

Take a look at Distributed Proofreaders. You scan the book (the best way, unfortunately, is destructively, taking the book apart at the spine so the pages can lie flat - don't have to, but it makes much better scan images). The scans are then OCRed (by you or another DP person), and then the scans and the OCRed pages are compared and proofread and formatted by - lots of people! (Including me...it's fun). Then somebody does the post-processing and turns all those fully corrected pages into a single file (a text version, and frequently an HTML version too, especially if there are a lot of or important illustrations), which finally goes to PG.

Misericordia, you lured me over here from Site Talk! I see my 'solution' was not helpful (you knew it), but the group is neat...
