2020 - The Split by Sharon Bolton - 400 pgs. - ★★★★★ - 3/6/2020
Sharon Bolton has outdone herself with her new standalone psychological thriller. It starts out slow but in the end, it is a tension-filled gripping read that never lets go. Felicity Lloyd is a glaciologist and is hiding from her abusive ex-husband, Freddie, on South Georgia Island in Antarctica. Bolton's description of South Georgia Island makes you feel like you are there in all the ice cold temperatures.
While back at home in Cambridge for a break, she meets Joe Grant, a psychologist, who delves into her background in order to help her cope with her fears. On a daily basis, she feels someone is watching her. She needs to get back to South Georgia Island in order to feel safe. Is that person Freddie or is someone else out to do her harm? When she gets back to the island, the story takes off at breakneck speed. There are plenty of twists and turns that I never saw coming. I am sure that this book will be one of my favorite reads for 2020! I would highly recommend to those who love psychological thrillers! I would also like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC for an honest review.

Thanks Carol! I also have a copy of the new C.S. Harris book to review. I was thinking that I would read all the books in between the ones we read and the new one I got from NetGalley but the libraries are closed so that won't be possible. Hopefully it can be read as a standalone. Otherwise, I'm sure I'll be quite lost in the story.

✔2020 - Hid from Our Eyes Julia Spencer-Fleming - 352 pgs.- ★★★★★ - 12/29/2019
This is the 9th book in the Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne Mystery series set in upstate NY. Clare and Russ have both been in the military. Clare is now the pastor of St. Alban's Church and Russ is the police chief of Miller's Kill police department. Russ receives a 911 call that a young woman has been found dead with the same MO as a crime Russ was accused of in the 70s. At that time, Jack Liddle was called to a murder scene that was very similar to one he worked as a trooper in the 50s. Russ found the body while riding his motorcycle after returning from Vietnam and was considered a suspect. Russ is now pressured to solve these three murders 40 years apart before a vote to eliminate his police department and return to state patrol. He has also enlisted the help of Reverend Clare Fergusson, who is already juggling the tasks of being a new mother to her and Russ's baby and running St. Alban's Church, to finally solve these crimes.
It's been 6 years since the last installment of this series as the author was dealing with the death of her husband and I was very happy to return to the lives of Clare and Russ. They are well-developed flawed characters and this plot kept the pages turning until the very surprised ending. You will get much more out of this book if the series is read in order although this one works as a standalone too. Cliffhanger ending makes me look forward to the next book. Highly recommend to mystery readers. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a free copy for an honest review.

A new St. Cyr is always welcome - wonder where we'll be in the series by book 15?

I always look forward to John Sandford's April release and have preordered Masked Prey on Audible. Same thing with Walk the Wire. After waiting years for the next Julia Spencer-Fleming book I probably won't believe it until I actually see it.

>6 Olivermagnus: Isn't that the truth??? I checked all the websites to see if she had died. What do you want to bet this will end the Amos Decker series? >3 EadieB: Check Overdrive to see if they have the books that you lack. Since all the libraries are closed they are very, very busy but they do have a lot of books.

>7 Carol420: Thanks! I'll check overdrive for sure.
>6 Olivermagnus: It is true about Julia Spencer Fleming's new book I got a copy from NetGalley and have already read it. It was her husband that died and she couldn't write for awhile.
