The central figure in an early 1960s British political scandal, Christine Keeler died December 4 at the age of 75. Her books include Scandal and The Truth at Last: My Story.

French singer Johnny Hallyday died December 6 at the age of 74. He wrote Dans mes Yeux.

Author William H. Gass died December 7 at the age of 93. His many books include The Tunnel and Omensetter’s Luck.

Journalist and novelist Leslie H. Whitten "Les", died December 1 at the age of 89. His books include Moon of the Wolf and The Alchemist.

French author Jean d'Ormesson died December 5 at the age of 92. His books include The Glory of the Empire, Histoire du Juif errant and au plaisir de Dieu.

Alan Sinfield, a leading light in both Queer Studies and Shakespeare Studies, died December 2 at the age of 75 after a long illness -- he was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2004. He was for a time the editor of the journal Textual Practice and his many books include Political Shakespeare (with Jonathan Dollimore) and The Wilde Century.

Model and WWII espionage agent, Aline Griffith, Countess of Quintanilla and Romanones, died December 11 at the age of 94. Her books include The Spy Wore Red and The Well-Mannered Assasin.

Disgraced Cardinal Bernard F. Law died December 19 at the age of 86. His books include Christian Marriage: A Covenant of Love and Life and Solidarity in Favour of new Migrations.

Author Clifford Irving died December 19 at the age of 87. He's best remembered for hoaxing the world with The Autobiography of Howard Hughes. He also wrote Final Argument and Trial.

Exiled Chinese poet Yu Guangzhong died December 14 at the age of 89. His work includes Xiao yao you and Impermeable Call Transition.

Sportscaster Dick Enberg died December 21 at the age of 82. His books include Dick Enberg's Humorous Quotes for All Occasions and Dick Enberg: Oh My!.

Diplomat Edward Rowny died December 17 at the age of 100. He wrote It Takes One to Tango and Smokey Joe & the General.

Famed hockey goalie Johnny Bower died December 26 at the age of 93. He wrote The China Wall: The Timeless Legend of Johnny Bower.
