Now that my library is all cataloged (I hope I won't be discovering anymore long lost books) I can really settle down to read those that have been lingering too long.

So after much reflection. I've decided to set my goal in 2017 to 72 - 20 audios, 42 e-books, and 10 ARDs.
Goal:
E-Books/Net Galley 42 Books off my e-readers or NetGalleys downloaded to my Tablet, or Books on my PC Kindle App.
Audio books 20 - Books downloaded to my PC/MP3
ARDs 10 - Books that are already sitting on my shelves or ARCs/ERs awarded to me in 2017.

For every ROOT successfully cleared in 2017 I put $1 in my book bank so that at the end of the year I have money for new books! I already have my wishlist created so before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, I will place my order with Barnes & Noble for my e-book acquisitions and will have additional books to count. The book bank total may be added to if I receive any gift cards for Christmas.

Starting Tallies:

Tsundoku (My Unread) = 189
PC Downloads = 125
NOOK = 199
Tablet/Kindle = 59
Borrowed = 10
STARTING ROOT TOTAL = 581

NetGalley/ER Awards in 2017 - 82

Total ROOTS = 663

ETA - books I had before 2017 but failed to catalog.

I wish you much success in 2017! Thanks for all you do. I had so much fun ROOTing in 2016. I'm looking forward to it again in 2017.

"These numbers will change with my annual New Year's Eve purchases."

I might need to start this tradition :-)

A book bank - sounds like great idea. Good luck this year 8-)

The book bank idea sounds good but do you only buy books once a year? Best of luck with your ROOTing in 2017.

>7 Familyhistorian: I buy books at other times in the year but these I think of as my reward for reading the ones I already own. This year I got 16 books with my book bank from 2016 and a $25 gift card. I still have some money to spend.

Happy New Year! Thank you for the new group stuff. Book bank would not work for me. I'd be in the red the first day...

I love the book bank idea, but like EAM I'm pretty sure I'd be 'borrowing' from the bank a long time before the end of the year!

These are the "guilt free" purchases.

I'm a list person, I admit it.
Keeping a list of the books that I am considering for this year, works fr me because I love to see little check marks showing that I've done it. A sense of accomplishment, I guess. As the year goes by, I'll insert the checkmarks and hope tthat there are more of them than not.

Hi Chèli, just dropping by to say that to you. How are you doing?

34cyderry
Apr 9, 2017, 11:50 pm

>33 connie53: Well, to be honest, between trying to make sure that my 92 yr old Mom has the care she needs and making sure that my volunteer work is running smoothly, I'm surprised I still have hair on my head.

My Mom insists on living at home but she can't be left alone so my sisters and I are trying to find competent caregivers for her that won't break the bank because she won't go to assisted living.

Then this week I had to scramble to adjust the date for our big fundraiser because the facility where it was to be held had double booked.

But things are calming down and I'm hoping the coming week will be a bit better.

Thank you for asking. How about you, how are things going?

>34 cyderry: Wow Chèli, that is a lot of organizing. I hope you will find the right caregivers and a new date for the fundraiser.

Here there is no real news. Peet is still struggling with his depression. He has bad days and some not so bad days, but the days are never good. He has some sleep disorder. He stops breathing for more then 40 times an hour so he will get a denture to fix that. Hopefully that will help. I'm doing good, getting my strength from reading and Fiene, our granddaughter. My colleagues, friends and work are helping too.

Hi Chèli, just stopping by to say Hi. I've been away from LT for some time due to RL things. But now I'm back trying to keep up with threads.

How are you doing since your fall. Are you getting better?

56cyderry
Modificato: Lug 25, 2017, 6:42 pm

for all and >55 connie53:

I guess I better post a medical update.

I saw the doctor today and we have agreed that surgery is the next step. I had been making some improvement (3 steps forward but 2 steps back) but since the pain persists in my shoulder, he feels that the time has come to take a look. Now I need to get it scheduled (probably sometime next month) and make sure that my husband Tim will be around to take care of me because with my left arm out of commission, I will be totally helpless. (I had a stroke at a very young age and it resulted in a major loss of function on my right side.) The main issue is that I can't have MRIs so x-rays and ultrasounds only show so much. Doctor says he will prepare for worse case scenario so that he will be able to fix whatever he finds. Recovery 4-6 weeks before I am pretty much back to normal unless of course he finds something really bad in there.

Tim is not excited about being my caregiver - more because of lost time on the golf course than having to be at my beck and call. I think he might be hiring a daytime nurse.

I should be able to get the August thread up and I'll try to prep the September thread so that there won't be too much to do except gather the numbers and post the status.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

57floremolla
Lug 25, 2017, 7:10 pm

>56 cyderry: you've been so unlucky with this shoulder injury and surgery is such a major step, but it sounds like you've got a good doctor on your side - so please focus on getting better and don't worry about LT, the numbers can wait awhile.

Tell Tim 4-6 weeks is nothing on the scale of spousal duty, bearing in mind you never know who's turn it will be to need care next! All the best to you both.

58Tess_W
Lug 25, 2017, 7:16 pm

>56 cyderry: Oh Cheli I'm sorry that you will have to have surgery, but I'm sure the doctor knows best. Please be at peace and know that this group can wait on its figures, we're really all about the reading and chatting anyway! I will add you to my prayer list. Hope your recovery is painless and quick.

Lug 26, 2017, 11:13 pm

Well, I have a date for my surgery, and I am not happy. September 18th is the earliest date on my surgeon's schedule. There must be an awful lot of hurting people out there. This means that I have another 55 DAYS that I have to suffer through before there will be any possible start of the relief from this pain. Please send Tim your sympathies because I am going to be one grumpy person.

65Tess_W
Lug 26, 2017, 11:15 pm

68floremolla
Lug 27, 2017, 4:19 am

I hope you've got good pain relief because that's way too long to wait in pain and discomfort, wishing your days away - while being pretty limited in what you can do to make the time pass more quickly. Is there any chance of being called earlier if there's a cancellation in the surgeon's schedule? Might be worth asking?

69Jackie_K
Lug 27, 2017, 5:53 am

I'm sorry to hear that, and I'm certainly wishing Tim patience and forbearance, as well as sympathy and good wishes for pain relief for you.

Is there anything that we as ROOTers can do to help, as spending ages on the computer is probably not going to do you much good.
