Novel Plot - Woman escapes abusive/torturing/murderous uncle who continues to hunt her because once she is dead, he and his wife (her mother's witch of a sister) will inherit the estate. As she and her best friend (young gay man Nate?) run, she meets the Hero (a respected and feared warrior) who offers to pay her for a night in bed. She pretends to agree (feels she has no choice) but hits him (knocks off balance?) borrows/steals his horse to escape. She reunites with (Nate?) and continues to her friend’s (Caroline? Catherine?) wedding. Where she meets the H, who owns the property (his best friend is marrying C and is the caretaker/lord.) The H & h are very attracted to one another. They are caught by a bishop (in his sleeping quarters) panting hot and heavy. The Bishop insists that the H do the right thing. The uncle appears and tries to convince all concerned that the h is insane (thinking maybe that he’s trying to convince everyone that she is dangerous/homicidal but don’t quite remember that part.) The H dislikes/distrusts the uncle and perhaps he realised that the uncle abused her and wants her back! They marry and H takes her to his keep high in the mountains (Ireland, Scottland?) where she cleans it up and they fall in love. (Mornay or Moray?) H is known as the Monster of Mornay (Moray.) H is haunted by his previous wife. H gives h a beautiful mare. She learns how to use a bow and goes out to practice. Meanwhile, her uncle returns, seeking her death. He wounds the two men that went with the h and kidnaps her. The mare makes it back to the keep and then leads the H to where the h was taken (and saves the lives of the two men.) The H tracks the h and only then realises how much he loves her. He goes insane with rage when he sees the uncle strike her and kills him. The H & h return home to live.

OMG, re-read this book today! The heroine has a very sharp (biting) tongue. And the Hero is magnificent! Damn good read (re-read.) I shall read it again and likely again as I am sure I've missed some of the best stuff!
"Her brute was stewing about something. And she hated to see him suffer."
And later, "Aurora sighed. 'Twas her fault. All of it. She'd been selfish in the aftermath of her uncle's assault. Had taken all Brigham offered - his strength, comfort and care - and not given much in return. In her defence, she'd never imagined herself capable of turning into a babbling overwrought ninny"
Sigh... Good stuff.
