1LibraryCin
Gen 16, 2016, 2:34 pm

I'm LibraryCin. I use the same name on all four "main" book sites (soon to be three sites): shelfari, LibraryThing, leafmarks, and Goodreads.

My real name is Cindy and I am a librarian in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have two cats, Io (male, almost 13 years old, friendly, recently diagnosed with asthma), and a new boy, Kells (5-7 years old, shy). I also volunteer for a no-kill cat rescue.

Gen 16, 2016, 5:02 pm

I am Sara W from Shelfari. I couldn't use that name here.

I live in Pittsburgh with my husband. We have three boys and a beagle/blue tick hound. I recently started working for an independent yarn studio. Its a great job but it has taken away all my knitting time.

3BookConcierge
Gen 16, 2016, 5:28 pm

Hi, Tessa - I'm Book Concierge (with a space) on Shelfari, Goodreads and Leafmarks / BookConcierge (no space) here

I've been a member of Library Thing for five years (just got notified that I got a "badge" or "medal" for five-year membership ... who knew?), but I only just imported my shelves this week. Lots of info is missing, but I just don't have time to go through it all right now. I know my Goodreads shelves are complete so over time I'll compare and update here.

I grew up in Texas and moved to Wisconsin after I attended Marquette University. Married, no kids, no pets. Still work full time in health care adminsitration (I work for a group of pediatric surgeons). I also volunteer in my community, serving on the board of directors of my local library and the Skylight Music Theatre, as well as the Lakefront Festival of Arts committee.

In addition to reading, I enjoy travel, gardening, theater (especially musical theater), and cooking (and eating).

4Cora-R
Gen 16, 2016, 5:48 pm

Hi I am Cora R from Shelfari. I joined LT earlier this week (the day before it was free) and so far I really like what I see. I suspect that this will be my go to book site, although I will have accounts at Good Reads and Leaf Marks too.

I am a stay at home mom with three kids (8, 10, and 13 years old) and I live in Maryland (in the DC metropolitan area).

5Kristelh
Gen 16, 2016, 5:49 pm

I am Kristel at Shelfari and Kristelh here. I am on all the sites. I've been a member of LT for awhile and involved in a few groups. I have a 5 year badge too. I live in Minnesota.

6SoschaF
Gen 16, 2016, 6:17 pm

Hi, I go by Soscha on all 4 (soon to be 3) book sites and Aurelie Juliette Lagrange on Facebook, though neither of those are my given name. ("Nobody gets in to see the wizard. Not nobody.")

I'm originally from the Midwest--Iowa specifically--but am now a warm and happy Southern Californian. I have 7 Chihuahuas, 1 Yorkie and 1 Pomeranian, all mostly old, and/or ugly, and/or mean that I ended up with while running a dog rescue. In addition, there's 7 cats I ended up with while doing cat rescue, so no more rescue for me unless it's fat abandoned wallet rescue.

I'm a part time writer, full time dilettante and nearing my goal of a personal library surpassing that of Thomas Jefferson's at Monticello.

7Tanya-D
Modificato: Gen 16, 2016, 6:30 pm

Hi I'm Tanya, and I go by Tanya-D here, and Tanya D. on both Goodreads and Leafmarks. Shelfari was my main site though I sort of maintained my other profiles.

It's just me and my beagle mix, Tanner, and I take care of a bunch of other animals as I am a zookeeper. I'm looking forward to learning how to use this site and hoping it will do for my needs.

Besides reading and animals, I enjoy crochet, hiking, genealogy, and long complicated board games.

>6 SoschaF: Wow, Soscha! I didn't know you ran a rescue! (I was initially going to say I didn't know you had so many pets, but that explains why!) I volunteer at a no-kill cat shelter, and the main reason I only have two is that I rent... for now. Yikes! I don't think I can adopt too many more, even if I owned - cost for vet bills. I've had plenty of those with only 2!

11nospi
Gen 16, 2016, 7:41 pm

I am nospin on GoodReads, Leafmarks, Booklikes, and Shelfari - nospi here. I joined years ago but never got thoroughly in to it so can't remember whether nospin wasn't available or it was a typo.

I have 2 rescue cats - a Bengal given to the ASPCA due to a kink at the end of his tail and a Himalayan turned into the county animal shelter. They are 13 and 11 now so getting up there in age.

It is so nice to have a group to go to when you have questions.

12kimberwolf
Gen 16, 2016, 8:45 pm

Hi, I'm kimber frantz on all the other sites and kimberwolf here (wolford is my maiden name). I live in Michigan. I am married and have two grown up kids, 6 cats and an energetic beagle/lab named Poppy -- although right now she is laying on my feet under my desk and snoring.

I've been toggling between all of the sites, and imagine I will continue to do so after Shelfari is gone, because I've found good things and good people on each of the other sites. I've imported my books here and that seems to have gone well, except for the need to re-set some as to-read, which I have figured out following Tanya's instructions from Shelfari discussions (thanks!).

Also, thanks for setting this group up here, Cindy, it makes it much easier to see how things work.

13LibraryCin
Gen 16, 2016, 8:48 pm

>12 kimberwolf: No worries! I set one up at leafmarks ages ago. I don't know why I didn't think to set one up here until last night (well, when I woke up in the middle of the night!). Especially since this is the more confusing of the sites, with so much going on here! Anyway, it was the first thing I did when I got online today.

14Ellen_R
Modificato: Gen 17, 2016, 10:53 am

I am EllenR from Shelfari, same name on GoodReads and LeafMarks, and Ellen_R here.
I grew up in Massachusetts but have called Texas home for almost 40 years now. I'm married and have two grown daughters and two tuxedo cats, Lucy and Ethel.
I work as a processing clerk at the local public library and I love my job! Every item added to the catalog comes through my hands so my TBR just grows, and grows, and grows.
Besides reading I love to cook, quilt, knit and crochet, and I love jigsaw puzzles.
It's so nice to see so many friends here already!

I just came over from Shelfari, with the same user name. I've also been on Leafmarks for just over a year. The import of my Shelfari data to LM went very well, here I've got a LOT to clean up. Books missing author names, books given completely new titles and authors while the cover image and my other information is correct, the problem that to-read, currently-reading, wish-list and favorites don't map. Shelfari had the easiest interface, but I'm liking the entry interface here better than on LM. The fact that tags are used most like Shelfari is the real winning point for me though. The shelf interface on LM I just don't like. I'm sure I'll find some fun groups here. I also like the local information features.

16.Monkey.
Gen 17, 2016, 3:52 am

>15 SF_fan_mae: Did you import from a file? It's possible the columns of data were in the wrong locations, if so. If that is the problem, you could fix up the file to the proper setup for here, and then re-import your books. You could also try emailing info@librarything.com and explaining the problem, they'll be able to look over your import and see why it bungled things up and how to help that not happen. :)

17Melissa_J
Gen 17, 2016, 9:20 am

Hi! I'm Melissa_J here, AvidReader on Shelfari and Melissa on Leafmarks. I can't remember my GR name but I think it is Avid_Reader_MJ. I've successfully imported my shelf here (thank goodness! I was quite stressed about losing all my book data as the only place it had been housed was Shelfari). I did have to do some manual adjustments though, but it hasn't been that bad as the user interface is good. My reviews and tags all showed up correctly. I don't track date read, other than to tag a book by the year I read it in so I don't have issues related to that (which I could see how transferring that data manually would be time consuming)

Anyway, for those of you who don't know me, I live in Ottawa, Canada. My favourite genres are historical fiction and fantasy, and also really enjoy mysteries and thrillers. I read pretty broadly, however, so my shelf is varied. in addition to reading I love spending time with my family, travelling and paper crafting (I love making my own cards). My profile pic is of our dog, Ellie. She's a two year old miniature schnauzer :-)

18LibraryCin
Gen 17, 2016, 1:05 pm

>15 SF_fan_mae: and >16 .Monkey.: It seems that this has been happening with a lot of shelfarians. Apparently shelfari, at some point, changed their file format, so I'm wondering if that's the issue?

Anyway, I've heard that it really shouldn't take too long to fix. There is a way to "bulk" edit, and I think a few people here have done that, so they might be able to speak to how to do that. I've seen it explained in a couple of places (not sure if it's in the group or not), but I can't recall where.

Modificato: Giu 5, 2016, 9:54 pm

Hi,Dusty here(formally dustydigger,but Dusty to friends)
I have been almost exclusively on Shelfari, with a shelf on GR,though not on groups or posting.I dont like the atmosphere there nor the layout
Joined Leafmarks last year when Shelfari glitches became worse, but only to keep my data there as a safety back up.
Suffering from ill health and having many family commitments, I've had to use my limited online time wisely,so LT sadly lost out. Maybe I can pop in here now and again.Plus see how to find my way around! lol.
I am a very eclectic reader,with a large shelf.Fave genres are Crime fiction,science fiction,childrens classics,urban fantasy. Dont like erotica,action adventure,war,or horror - I'm a wimp!
Hope I can talk now and again, when all the furore has calmed down.

20LibraryCin
Gen 17, 2016, 1:06 pm

And I'm jealous for those whose reviews showed up here. When I imported (again, maybe something to do with the change of format on shelfari's end?), a few years back, I lost all my reviews (they did all import over at LM, so they are all backed up over there, luckily).

21.Monkey.
Gen 17, 2016, 3:22 pm

>18 LibraryCin: Batch editing wouldn't work for fixing titles and such that wound up in the wrong fields, though. That's for things like adding a tag to multiple books, or deleting a bunch, or adding/removing a bunch from a collection, and whatnot. You can't batch edit a messed up title. ;) It can certainly be used to fix the to-read, currently-reading, wish-list problem, though!

>20 LibraryCin: Did you not save a copy yourself, as a CSV file or whatnot? ...Actually I'm not sure that matters at this point, I doubt you'd want to redo your library here now and I'm not sure it's possible to simply add a field in without reimporting the whole thing. But, either from the saved export or from your LM, you can always individually copy and add in your reviews. In the future if something messes up, ask! LT staff is always eager to help in such instances! :)

22LibraryCin
Modificato: Gen 17, 2016, 3:41 pm

>21 .Monkey.: I believe everything ending up in "read" is the main problem (from what I've heard, anyway), so I think that bulk edit should do the trick for that (again, from what I've heard from a couple of people who have already fixed it up).

For me, I did save a csv file, but it was so long ago. I haven't resaved anything. I don't want to mess around with my shelf now. Ever since importing here, I've kept everything up to date. The only thing that hasn't been kept up is my "plan to read" shelf. I have printed that off from shelfari and will be adding that in (manually) here. Many of them are already here, but I want to add to it and fix it up.

Also, shelfari changed the file type sometime recently (after I imported mine), so I'm not sure what's different and how that would affect what I already have here. It may be a tsv file now? Or is it the other way around? csv before and tsv now? Not sure! Before importing to Leafmarks, I was going through (very slowly) and adding my reviews manually (and double checking tags, date read, etc. while I was there, anyway, as there were some "odd" things that got changed, as well, here and there).

Thank you for the suggestions!

By the way, for anyone wondering, for manual edits/checking I was doing, I was adding in an "edited" tag so I knew which ones were already fixed and/or checked. For most, everything was fine. I may still go back and continue with that at some point, as well. Because I will currently be adding my tbr in manually, with my initials as a tag, I'm going to also double check all the previous ones that made it in and count my initials tag also as an "edited" tag. Once I'm actually finished (if I ever do finish), I'll plan to remove that "edited" tag. That's just a tip I saw from someone way back when I first joined here.

23Connie-D
Modificato: Gen 17, 2016, 5:04 pm

Hi! I'm Connie D from Shelfari and I managed to keep my name and avatar, so you may recognize me. So far, I have managed to get about 400 books to LibraryThing and 0 to Goodreads, 0 to leafreads. I'm nervous about losing all the data and books I've collected (close to 8,000), but it looks like I at least have an excel sheet saved on my computer. That's a relief.

Thanks, BookConcierge, for helping me figure out how to export to LibraryThing, and thanks, LibraryCin, for telling me about your group here!

So, I love books, as you must too. I like just about every genre, but it depends on my moods and the quality of the book. I love reading book reviews (in magazines, online, and from you folks)and discovering new books and authors.

More later.

24SF_fan_mae
Gen 17, 2016, 9:18 pm

Adding a temporary edited tag sounds like a good idea, I'll start doing that myself. The bulk edit is helping with the to-read problem. My wish-list and favorites were small, so finding those and fixing them by hand shouldn't take long. I imported from Shelfari's "tsv" export (though it isn't really a tab separated file, it is comma separated, so should be csv). The read dates are the bigger probem, but the most acurate of those are in LM anyway. I'm trying to consolidate the information from both the other sites here. There are still at least 1000 books in my home database (going back data entered from hand written lists) that have never gotten entered in any of the on-line tools.

25Superenigmatix
Gen 17, 2016, 11:35 pm

Hi I'm Superenigmatix from Shelfari, same handle here and everywhere on the Net.

I've an account on LeafMarks too, but I imported there six months ago so it is all out of date. I will try here first and then maybe re-do LM if necessary. I used Shelfari more as way of remembering what I've read and finding gaps in my collection, it was great and I'm very disappointed it's gone, so 'thhhhpppttt' to Amazon and affiliates.

My import here was disastrous first time round, so I deleted it all and it was much better the second time (and I used more patience!). I imported about 2300 and I know there's a lot of fixing up to do! Plus several thousand more to add, I may get a barcode reader if I get serious here. No time at present so I will just worry about present reading for now.

I'm in New Zealand now but originally from the UK

Cheers

I'm Kate on Shelfari and evidently Kate Volz on Goodreads (I can't believe I told that rabble my full name, maybe I'll go back into my profile and change that...) I'm dabbling in here, at Leafmarks and GR, the latter mostly because that's where 1001 books chose to go. I'm pretty early on in sorting out my books and finding groups. I just imported books here, and will be back to learn how to use LibraryThing another day, since I am trying out three main book sites to see which one(s) I'll frequent once Shelfari is gone.

I'm Bee F on Shelfari. I live in Sydney Australia, have two grownup children and a husband. I'm still working and find it hard to squeeze in as much reading as I'd like. Luckily I have a long commute, enjoy walking and can take advantage of audio books while doing both. I enjoy mysteries, SciFi /Fantasy, histories, biographies and general literature.

I'm Hope. On Shelfari, I was Hope H, and on LibraryThing, I am Hope_H. My "Angel of Grief"/ weeping angel avatar is the same - or soon will be - on all three sites, as well. I need to get it uploaded here. It is taking a little bit of my reading - or a lot right now - of my reading time to get my books up to speed here. Reading dates imported oddly.

I am a teacher (Library Media Specialist/Teacher Librarian) in a middle school in East Central Iowa. My husband recently retired and we have two adult children. We also have four dogs, two cats, two goats, two small parrots, and a really elderly flock of chickens. I read almost anything, but especially like mysteries, romance, and literary fiction.

Hello, I'm Sue and live in Cyprus. I've been cataloguing books long enough that I still remember the site Bibliphil which closed a few years ago. Thankfully I had exported everything to Shelfari and Goodreads, and continued to use both. However I don't like to be limited to just one method of cataloguing, so I've imported my Shelfari library to Leafmarks, and also here, after learning about the free upgrade. I tried using this site before (and liked a lot about it) but the 200 book limit was way too low.

I could have sworn I introduced myself here. Weird. Anyway, I'm Anita, yet another Shelfari orphan, and I've been there since 2008, and on GR (never been much of a fan) since 2011. I had an account here at LT a few years ago, but deactivated it because I just wasn't into it or something. After the Shelfari shocker, I joined here (again) and LM, and I actually prefer LT. The more I learn, the more I love it. I don't have any friends here, so I haven't been around much. Plus, I'm a little gun-shy about adding books anywhere. Once I get more comfortable, I'll pick up the pace - I hope. If anyone would like to connect with me, feel free to send a FR.

I work from home and I homeschool my 11 y/o daughter. Other than reading and writing, I love gaming, coding, and movies. Also, I'm old - almost. LOL.

Hi everyone,
I'm Lauren.
I originally joined Library Thing when Shelfari's ultimate demise was evidently on the horizon and GR's acquisition by Amazon indicated a change in direction for the site. Since then, GR got its act together more or less, and it has been my primary site. That said, I always like to have a backup just in case so I've re-booted my account her (deleted all books and re-uploaded from an up to date file).
Good luck to everyone in the transition.

hi all - it's nice to see familiar folks from Shelfari and Leafmarks.

Now that I'm getting accustomed to this site, I am really enjoying the options and features, thanks to a lot of help from posts in the Green Dragon group.

ScoLgo - one thing I miss from our previous homes is seeing everyone's avis on their posts. Your silly dog's face always gave me a smile :) How are Yorgo and Horshach getting along?

Rasp is having a terrible time on LT,finding it very difficult to even get the site on her phone. I have sent 4 or 5 requests to my group but she never finds it. It is a hidden group, dont know if that is causing difficulties.
Rasp, dont worry, take it slow. To post on here all you do is go to the bottom of the posts to where it says add a message, type inyour comment and click on send.Which you did,and voila!

.>74 .Monkey.: In my particular group we are a small group of friends over a long period, years, for the most part, who have shared personal problems at times, including widowhood, loss of close family, health problems and the like. It has become a personal vent for any problems or concerns,as well as occasional joys etc,a comfortable online place where we can discuss books with likeminded people. It would be very uncomfortable to have any stranger to be able to be able to take part or comment on our talking. We are not at a cocktail party, which is the common mode here on LT, we are friends sitting together comfortably chatting. Thats a very different kettle of fish! lol. No way do we want lurkers outnumbering the active members. This last year has been a shock and strain for members as a whole, and some major sadnesses and issues within the group, including no less than two members being heartbreakingly widowed. But the private groups often do have some sort of reason for their privacy. Sometimes they are made up of the remnants of very much bigger groups, whose other members defected to Goodreads a few years ago,and then others left as the shelfari situation degraded. We are the stubborn, loyal survivors who circled the wagons and dug in till the last moment. No wonder we feel an affinity, and the urge to stick together. Two disastrous ejections from our online homes in a matter of months is no joke!!!!!

Giu 17, 2016, 1:38 pm

>74 .Monkey.: Mostly open groups? Interesting. The groups from Shelfari that I belonged to were open except for one I believe. The closed groups want to draw like minded people and want to invite someone in that a member knows. I have had problems in open groups where someone comes in and disrupts everything, criticizes everything and everybody, and just be downright negative. As long as the owner of the group can eject someone from the group who is being that way then it can be tolerable. But closed groups really don't grow in membership so that is a downside.

Making personal attacks on people is against the TOS here, so if someone does that their post needs flagging and you can alert staff about the issue.

>78 .Monkey.: We're not intending to seem stand-offish or rude. But we are a tad gun-shy and will need some time and patience. We're not used to admins that actually enforce TOS and work regularly to maintain their sites. Unfortunately, we've been left to fend for ourselves for the most part. Private groups provide us a slight sense of security. Be patient. We'll come around eventually. ;0)

82.Monkey.
Giu 18, 2016, 9:41 am

>81 Foghorn-Leghorn: Flags are for TOS violations & spam. They don't pay close attention to flags unless it's brought to their attention, or they happen to notice at random. If only a single person flags it the flag isn't visible, too easy for someone to just have a grudge or whatever. Two flags makes the post show flagged, four flags hides the text. If it's a spam thread and not just a post on someone else's thread, four flags makes it vanish into oblivion, unless someone responds on it, then it stays. So never reply to spam! Heh.

83.cris
Giu 18, 2016, 9:51 am

>82 .Monkey.: Have I got this right? Our group can delete an unwanted topic by 4 of us flagging it. Is this a way round the problem of my unwanted/mispelt/incomprehensible/mistaken topics, that hang round like a bad smell? I can ask 4 other members to flag it?

84.Monkey.
Modificato: Giu 18, 2016, 10:03 am

If there is just the one post with no responses, I suppose so, but if it's done several times your account could get marked as spam and need staff intervention to save it.

Also that'd possibly be considered abuse of the flagging feature.

Hi. I'm Raspberrymocha,as always! I finally made it over here from the defunct Shelfari and now defunct Leafmarks. I'm a retired art and English teacher. My late hubby loved to rescue cats, so I have 24 housecats. My favorite place in my home is our home library. Had to purge books the other day, as I only have shelving for 2500-3000 hardcovers. 😫 When not reading, I can, dehydrate and freeze produce and herbs from my garden. I also crochet, knit, paint, draw and go to auctions as I love cast iron, kerosene lamps, and jadite. Anything to keep myself busy, now that I'm an early widow. So glad to be around like minded readers! Feel free to friend me and point me to good groups. I still haven't gotten the hang of navigating this site. I gave up on importing from Shelfari and Leafmarks, so my shelf is very very bare!! Entering books is time consuming on here! Uffda namen!

*sigh* We care about the quality of the information in our catalogs here. If it's really so irritating to you, then just search the ISBN or title, author with amazon as your source, add what pops up, and be done with it.

99.Monkey.
Giu 21, 2016, 2:57 pm

I can understand being frustrated by the situation, but, "laborious, tedious, and downright irritating" is pretty clear-cut language. And my comment stands, regardless of the exasperation. If you don't care about the quality of the info, simply use amazon and leave it be, problem solved.

Giu 21, 2016, 8:55 pm

>99 .Monkey.:. I do have a question about cataloging our books. Do I understand that using Amazon is not the most reliable source? Which should we use? Should we use overcat or library of congress.

I really like LT but I find it much more technologically advanced for me and therefore, maybe others find it that way. I have learned things here but I usually have to be helped and really, I don't know why things work but I just keep repeating what I did, if it works. I do want to say that I think, in general people are very friendly and helpful. On the other hand, I think there are different ways of responding and reacting that might be age or country of origin. Therefore I would recommend when doing things here, remember that this is a more international and geeky place to hang out than old Shelfari.

102.Monkey.
Giu 22, 2016, 2:39 am

>100 Kristelh: Amazon is often fairly shoddy for data, yes. But due to marketplace selling and listing things that will be coming out soon etc they tend to have almost everything in their database, hence a lot of people who can't be bothered to take the time to do manual entries use them for simplicity. Most of us who are serious about our catalogs avoid them at all costs. Also, amazon ties their covers to ISBNs, so if you use an amazon cover, it will change your ISBN if that particular version of the cover has a different one, or, the cover in your catalog can change if a newer printing reuses that same ISBN but the reissue has a new cover.

Overcat isn't a single source, it's a listing of any sources people have previously used where that book has been found (e.g. if I searched for Book A in ILCSO and added it, and someone else searched for Book A in Oxford and added it, and you search for Book A in Overcat, it will show you the result from my ILCSO search & their Oxford search), so it's handy. Which source you give priority to is up to you. My top sources are LOC, the local central catalog where I can find anything I've borrowed from the library, ILCSO, Oxford, GBV, and LIBRIS.

Hello to friends from various book sites! I finally got around to posting on this "Introduce Yourself" site even though I spent a lot, a lot, of time on the "Help me import my books, please!!" thread on this site.

I was threadnsong on Shelfari and Leafmarks both, and spent most of my time in June getting my books correctly imported first and foremost. So I didn't spend a lot of time updating my bookshelf until it was complete and I could start seeing how books looked and how they worked. And then I started, and now that I'm a *tad* more comfortable with the hi-tech world of LT, I'm happily ensconced in a coffee shop posting to non help-me groups and becoming ever more familiar with LibraryThing's offerings.

I work on computers as my day job, so in the evenings I just need to get my head out of cyberspace and I'm seldom on a social media site in the evenings. Unless I'm very, very calm and centered.

And several of you whom I recognize - I just sent you friend requests *VBG*. Good to see you again!

Also, what are some of your recommended sci-fi/fantasy sites? I'm a member of Green Dragon (great group!) and am looking for places where I can post and get feedback on what I'm reading in that genre.

I think I'm covered in this historical fiction series group. I think.

Oh, and since this is the "introduce yourself" thread, I live in the greater Atlanta area (where we've had high, high heat and several thunderstorms and I'm enjoying the summer tomatoes from local farmers' markets) and my hobbies are all forms of needle arts except for quilting, reading, paper crafts, and music. In fact, besides reading, one of my favorite weekend activities is to take a piece of needlework to the living room and just listen to a CD on a weekend afternoon. When there's no other gardening or errands to be done.

Live with DH and a rescued cat and dog, and a foundling kitten (who's now 4 years old), 6 bookcases (one built by my grandfather), musical instruments, and lots of needlework.

Heya, Bookcached! Welcome aboard!

There are lots of helpful hints for LT available. For a quick primer, you might consider checking out The New How To Do Fancy Things In Your Posts Thread. I've been active here for a few months now - ever since our beloved Shelfari closed down - and I still refer to that thread all the time. >117 Bookcached: welcome! I'm still trying to find my way around some areas of LT and it's been 2 1/2 months. The site is really quite good, except there aren't the zillions of active social talkative groups like Shelfari was known for. Maybe after a while more groups will spring up or grow for we talkative types. Most folks here are quite friendly, but it is a big change from what we had grown used to. If I had a computer, I'd seriously consider starting a group, but it's too hard to navigate on a phone.

Most of the groups I could recommend are challenge-type groups.

I don't know about the free lifetime for former-shelfarians. I thought I read somewhere recently that, if you still have your file (export) from shelfari, you can still get the free lifetime, but that may not be accurate (memory, etc.).

>127 Raspberrymocha: Oh no! I'm sorry about the two kitties. :-( Let me know if you ever want to try one of the challenge groups and I can suggest a few for you to decide between.

I usually look at my groups through the "Talk" tab at the top. I usually have it defaulted to "my posts", so it shows me which threads that I've posted to have new replies. I can, of course, switch that to "my groups" and it will show all the threads in all my groups. I can change that to "groups and posts" to get everything (because you can, usually, post in groups that you aren't a part of, so if you've done that, that will bring up more than just your groups). But then, I've been here a few years and have joined plenty of groups, so that usually brings up plenty for me to wade through!

Hello Everyone. I'm Ray, and I was Ramon4 on Shelfari. When it closed, I moved to Goodreads. I spent a lot of time building my 900 book library there, but I've not been comfortable there. After so many years on Shelfari, Goodreads seems counter-intuitive. I joined the Shelfari group on Goodreads, and many of the members there recommended this Library Thing. So I thought I'd try it. I've spent the last 90 days putting in about 500 of my 900 books. So far, I'm happier working with Library Thing than good reads. I only recently learned of this Shelfari group here. I hope I can meet some of my old Shelfari friends, and make some new friends. I suspect I will make this my main site, and over time, just abandon Good Reads. Cheers

I just realized that I never reintroduced myself here on LibraryThing. I'm still Connie (D.) from Shelfari and I still like to read all sorts of books. I loved Shelfari and still find both LibraryThing and Goodreads rather awkward in some ways (especially the non-threaded discussions) but I've gotten more and more involved in challenges, reviews, and collecting books anyway.

I live in the Northwest and teach English to adult immigrants. In my spare time, I also work part-time in a library. I just can't get enough books....

I have two dogs (a 12-year-old golden retriever and a 4-year-old corgi), one cat (5 years old), one husband, one daughter (25 years old), and lots of birds visiting our yard. All in all, a quiet life, but pleasant.
