Intro

Hi all!

I couldn't find a real intro post, so I started one. Feel free to use it too if you're new.

My real name is Cora, I'm 38, married and living in The Netherlands. I love LT, books, reading... and lots more. If you want to know more, follow the link in my profile and read my blog. :-)

I can't add all my books yet, because most of them are still packed in a lot of boxes. We are rebuilding, but it's not a rush project. I'll have as much bookcases as possible in my room, but there's still so much to do before we come to that stage. :-( Some say it's strange, but I'm really missing my books... Ah well, I'll survive!

Hello, my name is, well, citygirl, and currently I call the beautiful Bay Area (San Francisco) home. I share quarters with a very lovely husband (who is also a Canadian, Mr. Dustin) and a surprisingly manipulative dog.

I've read constantly since I can remember and usually have several books going at once. I prefer fiction, but read a bit of non-fiction, too, if I want to know about something. Currently I am trying to get through my TBR pile, a task made more difficult by the fact that I keep buying new books.

I don't know if intros have moved over the the "I Hate Pseudonyms" thread, but I have to say I love pseudos, so I'm saying hi over here!

I'm now living in Washington, DC - where it is hot, but not as humid as it normally is.

I've always been a bigger fan of non-fiction than fiction, but since finishing grad school I've been making a real push to read more 'literary fiction' and classics, since I missed out on many of them in my non-fiction-oriented education. And I am having a lot of fun!

Hi, I've just joined this group after lurking around reading your posts for a little while. I'm from Melbourne, Australia and love books and reading. At the moment I am reading all fiction - with so many recommendations from LT posts, I have a huge list of books patiently waiting to be read.

Your books are patient, judylou? Wow. Mine taunt me: "Read faster, you lazy girl! Pick me! Pick me! I will change your life! You call yourself literate? Not til you've gotten between my covers. If you hadn't wasted all that time in bars and on the internet you might have read us by now. You see that Kell girl? We should go hang out at her house, at least we'd get read."

They're terrible. But I put up with it. What can you do?

Citygirl - I think our books must be related! Mine jump off the shelves and attack my feet (I keep them on the shelves under my desk). Look - there's another one having a go! I've just seriously upset one book (The Sooterkin) by abandoning it as being a rubbish read. I now feel guilty, but I can't bring myself to feel guilty enough to actually finish it. As a result, The Dumas Club is looking rather smug, because it got picked instead. I can almost hear it taunting the other books still waiting! ("Nyah-nyah! I got picked and you didn't!")

Soooo . . . . that's the noise I hear from inside the boxes every night !

Wow, and I thought mine were the only books that talked! The ones at the library beg me to take them home. Even the ones I've already read scream "Read me again! You loved me remember? Take me home with you!" The ones at home beg me to pick them up. I think a few of my TBR's are actually depressed because they think I have forgotten about them! Oh what is a girl to do?!

:-) You guys should read The Book of Lost Things if you haven't yet. Not only do the books talk, but they learn from each other!

The Book of Lost Things (which came up as Proust. I love it!) looks quite interesting. But I'm afraid that if I acquired it it might start to give the other books ideas they don't already have. They're unruly enough as is.

I had to stop getting books from the library. Not only was it an expensive habit ;-), but the books were often quite doleful: "You're just going to send me back and I'll end up on the shelf for months at a time while all those John Grishams are out having a good old time. They come back for a day or two bragging about their time on the beach and the view from the plane." Or if you don't get to one before you have to return it, it howls all the way back to the library and then hisses every time you pass it after that. Plus, the owned books make fun of them.
