a sci-fi book with two gay main characters and an airliner turned into a spaceship

I read this book in my youth, and for some reason it sticks out in my mind. There were two gay main characters, although it doesn't come out until the end of the book they were gay, and there was an airplane or airliner that was turned into a space ship or starship somehow. Any help is very much appreciated.

I unfortunately don't have any leads, but I'd be interested in finding the book myself if someone can come up with the title!

It's Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers by Harry Harrison. Very silly and highly recommended.

Sturgeon wrote a short story with some similar elements, which you all might be interested in as well: "The World Well Lost" (1953), also within the E Pluribus Unicorn collection.

ETA: Okay. I checked and they don't have it. But they can put it on a want list for you via email or phone. Almost all used paperback books are 1/2 cover price with a $3 minimum.
