Fiction
Plot : A teenage boy is in a plane crash, the pilot dies, and he is taken in my an old man who lives in a cabin in the wilderness. (I believe his name starts with an O) They end up living together for a long time and they develop a friendship.
When you think it was written or when you read it (10 years ago; about 1970...): I would guess around the 60's or 70's. The book looked kinda old. I read it around 2005 when I was 10 or 11.
Book's intended audience: Juvenile
Anything else you remember about the title, author, illustrations, cover, characters, setting, binding, or size of book: As I said, there's only two characters (except for the beginning before the pilot died), I read it in paperback, and it was about the size of a normal grade school novel.

And also I recall the old man singing "big rock candy mountain" somewhere in the book.
